300 AAC Blackout Input

I can reload 9mm for quite a bit less than .223. Not only are the bullets generally cheaper but using a 3.1 grain powder charge, I can load more than 2250 rounds from a single pound of powder. Where a 223 load using 25 grains of powder will go through a pound of powder in 280 rounds. That is an 8:1 difference right there.

I agree there isn't much reason for a 9mm rifle, .223 or 300 blk either. A good old lever action 30-30 or bolt acton 30-06 took care of everything long before any of the "new" rounds existed.

Lucky for us we don't really need a reason other than "just for fun"...think I may put that on my next form 1.

There are good reasons for 300blk: Performance from a short barrel, reliable centerfire rifle AR with sub-sonic bullets, same magazines and almost all parts the same as 5.56, better terminal performance than 5.56.

Spears and arrows took care of everything before firearms, and muzzle loading muskets took care of everything for a time, as did rifled muskets. THere's really no need for a fancy lever action 30-30

I don't know if he reloads or not. If he decides on a 300blk he should, it is a reloaders dream with all of the different combinations one can put together that still cycle the action.

All of thoes reasons are why I also own a 458 socom upper.

I have four rifles and one pistol, 8", 12.5", 16" (2) and a 16" AAC Handi Rifle. Shoot only supersonic and found it to be the greatest fun cartridge ever, I shoot 5.56 AR's until I tire and then the fun begins anew with the 300. Soda cans and dirt clods do not stand a chance. The 300 can be loaded as cheaply as 5.56 once you buy a supply of Brass....I use a lot of 147 gr pulled .308 bullets. If you have an AR in .223 already ......go 300 Blackout ....if not pursue the .223 first.

If you are a bullet caster then 300 blackout is a great round to shoot cast from the AR platform.

Do you powdercoat? I have to play with lead hardness and/or powdercoat to keep lead buildup out of a gas gun's system.

I started out powder coating but switched to the hi-tek coating.

It holds up well beyond the melting temp of lead and is easy to apply in bulk.

It's the stuff that comes out of Austraiia from J&M specialties, the most widely used coating by manufacturers. Donnie sells just the coating.
