Someone else has probably run into this but a search did not turn up anything so I'm sharing incase it happens to someone else.
So my Sil in NM made an impulse purchase of a Savage 110 SS in 300wsm. If he had asked me prior I probably would have steered him away. But he bought it and brought it here to deer hunt when he came home for a couple weeks at Christmas, so here we are.
He soon learned that 300wsm is one cartridge that is not readily available around here. So I jumped thru some hoops and came up with some new brass and dies from a couple LGs. I had plenty of the other components. So I loaded up the new Hornady brass with no problems. Between range trips and hunting we shot up most if that and in the meantime I acquired some fired brass. When I tried to load this, the cases wouldn't go into the shell holder. Norma, Winchester, and Fed would not go in, but the Hornady fired brass would. This was a Lee die set and #5 shell holder. Turns out I already had two #5 Lee shell holders. None of the three would accept anything but the Hornady brass. So I could go hunt down or order an RCBS or Hornady shell holder, but since I didn't really need three #5 Lee holders, I decided to modify one and made it work.
I took permanent marker and painted the case rim and pushed into shell holder to identify the issue. Then I took a Dremel to the problem area.
If you look close at the pic, especially the right side,you can see where the inner radius on shell holder was not relieved completely. It is now.
