I am considering trying out some RN or FN Hard Cast bullets instead of the the usual SWC I normally use in my 357. I have no problems with the accuracy of the SWC,I haven't ever tried anything else and was wondering how the compared for plinking, target shooting and for hunting. Thanks Ron.

I use a cowboy 158 grain RNFP lead bullet as my Target/Plinking load in, 38 spl. I like it because it shoots very close to the same point of aim as my 125 grain .357 magnum loads. I don't use it for hunting and wouldn't unless for small game, but then I'd use a .22LR for small game.

I use all three in my 38/357 and have never seen any change other than the hole in a paper target. I am very fussy about loads/accuracy/function. There is a difference when using a lever action carbine in that caliber. The SWC generally won't feed well in them.

If you are shooting in a timed game like pin shooting or plate shooting when you must reload, the round nose bullets feed easier into the cylinder from a speed loader. For paper targets the SWC puches a good round hole, not quite as good as a full wad cutter but much easier to score than a round nose type.

Otherwise there's no difference in load or shooting that I can tell between the types.

Thanks guys I didn't think there would be a difference but not having shot those types of loads, you don't know till you ask. I didn't want to spend good money on a bullet that wasn't as reasonably good as the SWC that I had been using.
