.38 Diamond Back $1400???

I probably wouldn't pay going rates for a diamondback, nice ones like the OP regularly go for $1500+. If I saw a nice one for $1400 I might.
I got lucky with mine, I was in the LGS about 12 years ago picking up a S&W M10-8 that I'd ordered in, and it was sitting in the case on consignment for a stupid low price even for back then. I actually said something about the owner lowballing themselves and the clerk just shrugged and said thats what the owner wanted.
It's a nice old gun, but I'd love a 4" for the range.

I don't understand people's fixation with "the box" and what they'll pay for it.

Reminds me of the old man at the parts house that had a bearing for a Farmall Super M-TA, we needed. Someone made a comment about the price and he said, "Oh, the bearing didn't actually cost that much. Most of the cost is for me keeping it back there on the shelf, where I could find it, for him, 40 years later."

Just rare to have packaging that many discard and the older they get the more rare it becomes.

How low are we talking about? very interesting that’s a DB was so cheap even 5 years ago

The one thing on the Diamondback that neither my son or I like is the shape of the wooden grips. The edges should be rounded more. Not an unsurmountable problem but somewhat annoying on a Colt that is supposed to be top of the line.

If I remember right it was priced at $300, maybe $350
It was $50 more than the M10 I was picking up, and I paid $250 for that but maybe I'm thinking with transfer fee and shipping, so probably $350.
Even 12 years ago they were already climbing in value and it was worth at least double asking price.
No idea what it's worth now, it's got a lot of holster wear on the right side and around the muzzle

It was made the same year that Bullit came out w. Steve McQueens character carrying one exactly like it so I like to fancy that maybe, just maybe, this is the one.

minimum of $1500 and selling like Costco $4.99 rotisserie chicken

Had one awhile ago. Think I paid around a grand for it without box, from 1968 if I remember correctly. Looks great, shoots good. Just to small for my XXL size mitts. Even with the Herretts grips was never comfortable to shoot. Sold it for about what I had into it. Hope yours shoots as well as it looks. IMG_20230507_114625_HDR.jpg

All the snakes are stupid overpriced. Ill take my 686 6" over any of the Pythons I've had and my 29 or S47N over any Anaconda. Even the "expert" Ayoob agreed that they were a little temperamental. That said, if I could find a 4" Python barrel I'd have it grafted to my 2 3/4" Security Six. Rugthonor better yet, Pyther.. Many Smith 19s had them. Smython or Smolt. Excellent barrels in the old days with a little choke toward the muzzle.

$88 is like 2 trips to Mcdonald these days

but it’s All Good! my wife was in Grad school too when I was in computer lab, these guys were buying BitCoins for pennies. Being the nosy people I am, got the scope and told my wife we should put $5,000 into it! We decided to pay off the $85,000 grad school loan instead. :( I could have had all the Snake Guns on Earth! lol! hind sight is always 20/20
