3fg powder in a soda can mortar?

I have a question for all of the blackpowder experts out there. I recently bought a soda can mortar. I was thinking about taking it out for it's maiden voyage this afternoon. The only powder I have laying around my shop is 3fg. The max for this mortar is 300 grains of 2fg (I would obviously work up to that). Could I use 3fg in place of the 2fg and just use a lot less powder to prevent over pressure? Thanks in advance for your advice guys!

for ML rifles you need to remove 15% of the 3f to equal the performance of 2f
