Alright… I’m looking at another SAAclone as a 100% shooter/tuner. I don’t own a Peitta, am I missing out?

I do like the 4 click real colt, and loading 5 is not a issue.

thoughts?

Both are good clones, but from what I've read, while the Uberti finish and CCH has been tad better in the past(maybe not anymore), most feel the Pietta has a smoother/lighter action.

I Heard Pietta was lighter & smoother! looking for a short barrel .357!

Most folks used to put Uberti ahead of Pietta but these days, they're about equal. They're both the best they've ever been. Though if you get a Uberti, I'd suggest getting one without that stupid retractable firing pin.
I have the one with the stupid retractable firing pin, actually 2, and they are ok… The hammer has to be pulled all the way back with meat or it won’t lock back. I’m going to get me hands on a Pietta and see how they differ for a real Colt

In the black powder world Uberti has better finished internal parts and they partially tune them. Pietta has good internals but are made from MIM parts that are very hard. On the open top replicas Uberti has the short arbor problem that needs to be dealt with. That also applies to the cartridge open tops. Pietta fixed the arbor problems but sometimes have timing issues.

My Taylor Smokewagon is an Uberti. The folks at Taylor were kind enough to help me out with a 4 click hammer at a modest price. It was a drop-in operation, and retained the tuning Taylor does.
This was a few years ago; not sure if 4 click hammers are generally available.

I've bought one of each in the past couple of years: a 4.75" Uberti 357 and a 4.75" Pietta 9mm.

They were both NiB, and both sold through Cimarron.

The Uberti has been fine.

The Pietta had to go back to the factory, but they did fix it properly and for free.

They both shoot fine. The Uberti never had any safety nonsense. The Pietta had the stupid cylinder pin safety, but a new cylinder pin quickly solved that problem.

They both have smooth four-click actions. The Uberti shoots to POA. The Pietta needs a little bit filed off the front sight.

I have the 9mm Uberti!

I should get a Peitta, need to see how it feels. That’s good to hear about their warranty!

I Have both, Pietta/4 5/8" barrel and Uberti/Taylors with tuned action 5.5" barrel, both .45 Colt. Pietta is four clicks, Uberti is three clicks.
Doesn't make any difference to me, they're desert plinkers. Both very smooth actions. The Uberti shot right out of the box, the Pietta, I had to file just a wee bit off of front sight.

Someone told be to change my sight picture and not the sights on a SAA

Had a couple. They're fun guns to shoot. Was looking at some new ones a while back, bought a used Ruger Blackhawk instead.
Still have a 7.5" Uberti 1875 Remington Outlaw clone. Very sweet gun to shoot

I did the retrofit a couple of weeks ago on my Cattleman II Uberti. The hammer you get from Taylor's is more true to the SAA patent than the previous safety Uberti had where you could push the cylinder rod back as a safety and the hammer had some sort of tab. The "kit" from Taylor's includes the hammer, trigger and a cylinder rod with the two indentations for the retaining pin. I gave about $145. You can buy the hammer and trigger separately, and use the same cylinder rod that the "new" floating pic models have, save yourself about $16 or so. You won't have any safety option at all, except for the "1st click" hammer notch, but that's all the cowboys had.

The swap truly is a drop-in fit, it took me twenty unhurried minutes to disassemble the action, swap the parts and reassemble the revolver. Just be careful with the little spring that hides behind a set screw in the frame and controls the hand. It and the set screw are small and would be easy to lose. If you have a mind to do a spring upgrade, it would be the perfect time.

Thanks, Bangswitch. Glad it worked out. Some things should just work the way they're supposed to. :)
BTW, mine is .45 LC, for tradition, and I love punkin rollers. But I can see the logic to a .38, or even (gasp!) a nine.

Have quite a few Ubertis and 2 Piettas, one is 1851 BP which I don't shoot anymore. Really enjoy this Pietta Gamblers Royale and recently bought a 9mm cylinder. Can now shoot 3 different cartridges. Very nice and solid.

Where did you find a replacement base pin for your Pietta 1873? The one place I looked, Belt Mtn? doesn't seem to carry them any longer.
Thanks for any help on this.

I currently own two Uberti SAA's. I got the base pin without the safety on eBay, the hammer and four click trigger from Taylors. Used to have ASM and Ruger SAA's, they were not as good. I also own currently three Colt SAA's. All of them are great, the Colts are just a bit better.
