There was a shooting overnight at at a Christian missionary center in Denver early Sunday morning. Not a lot of information at this time. I wonder if they'll prosecute this as a "hate crime".

DENVER - A gunman walked into a training center for young Christian missionaries in a Denver suburb early Sunday and opened fire, wounding at least four people.

The shooting happened at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Youth With a Mission center, Arvada Police spokeswoman Susan Medina said.

The extent of the injuries was not clear, and the gunman was still at large Sunday morning.

Just saw it on FOX news. No details other than LEOs are looking for the shooter.

Let's see, every time somebody does something like this, the media treat them like rock stars.

I can't imagine why people want to imitate them...

This doesn't make sense. It is not even 8 am on Sunday and they are reporting a 12:30 am shooting? That's 4+ hours from now!

I feel like that guy in the crazy television show where he read tomorrow's news today...

AM starts at the slightest bit past nidnight.

"M" is for "meridian" = midday = noon. Noon is neither AM nor PM.

^ well if It's fox, you know they'll spew filth about gun control.

Damnit. the year I start purchasing my firearms all this crap goes down?

Man... we need a TV show on a main network that's funded by the NRA that defends the position of gun owners.
Also, this show could discuss ways to protect yourself whether you have a gun or not. Family plans, and campus plans in hostile and emergency situations.
Really... I think it would be a good idea.

^ Well... Arvada is a sort of uppety little town ever since the revitalization. I love Arvada though. I go to the D'Note and hear live blues or bluegrass at least once a month! And I drive all the way from Brighton to do so!
The point is, they're trying to attract the wealthy to a "classy little old town shopping environment" and that pools in the liberal politicians and all of that. Thank God for the Army Navy Surpluss on the same street! HAHA! The only place you see all the guys with NRA stickers, cammo, and TRUCKS on that block!
But...I like Arvada. nice little place most of the time.

here's the info though from the website. Seems pretty neutral!

What is “open carry” of firearms?

Open carry is defined as the act of publicly carrying a firearm in plain sight. The definition of ‘plain sight’ varies somewhat from state to state, but can be broadly defined as simply not being hidden from common observation.

Local governments may enact an ordinance, regulation, or other law that prohibits the open carrying of a firearm in a building or specific area within the local government's jurisdiction. If a local government enacts an ordinance, regulation, or other law that prohibits the open carrying of a firearm in a building or specific area, the local government shall post signs at the public entrances to the building or specific area informing persons that the open carrying of firearms is prohibited in the building or specific area

Can I carry a firearm openly in Arvada?

Yes, but there are restrictions. Arvada has passed an ordinance against carrying firearms in public buildings. Those public buildings and locations prohibiting firearms are clearly posted as required by Colorado Law. CRS 29-11.7-104, Arvada Municipal Code 62-71

What is a concealed carry permit?

If you are a resident of Colorado, or on active military duty stationed in Colorado, you may apply for a concealed handgun permit from your local Sheriff. If granted by the Sheriff, the permit authorizes individuals meeting the statutory requirements established by law to carry a concealed handgun anywhere in the State with some exceptions.

If I have a concealed carry permit, can I carry on college school grounds?

Yes, with conditions, and as long as it is a public college. However, the Attorney General’s opinion is that the Regents to the University of Colorado are a constitutional office and have powers to govern that university; they may ban concealed carry on their campuses. As of the writing of this document, all of CU's campuses have a ban on concealed carry. CRS 18-12-105.5.

If I have a permit to carry concealed, can I carry in the City of Denver?

Yes. Colorado Law authorizes the concealed carry of a handgun in all areas of the state (see exceptions above) and does not allow for a local government to adopt or enforce an ordinance or resolution that would conflict with any provision of the law. CRS 18-12-214(1)(a)

Can I have a handgun in my vehicle?

Colorado Law allows a person to carry a handgun in a vehicle, loaded or unloaded, if its use is for lawful protection of that or another person or a person's property while traveling. It may be carried in open view or kept in a compartment normally used to carry items in a car, such as a glove box. It is unlawful to conceal a weapon on or about your person, or within a vehicle in a manner that would be considered concealed. However, a pistol tucked under the edge of a car seat where it is within easy reach may constitute carrying a concealed weapon. (38 Colo. App. 346, 556 P.2d 491 (1976)). CRS 18-12-105(2)(b)

Yeah

All the copycats are coming out of the woodwork - could be a bad X-Mas Shopping season.

This guy did't sticxk around and get killed - not saying he's not insane, but a bit more calculating and dangerous.

I wonder if they'll prosecute this as a "hate crime".

If you already know the shooter's motive, maybe you should call the local police and let them know ;)

This is so sad. And to think that Denver just started their bans on weapons in the city. I guess the criminals arent getting cc'd on those emails?

In any public place where people gather, for whatever reason ,shouldn't there be at least one competent armed guard , empowered to shoot any would-be armed killer?

This seems especially neccesary in countries where firearms are available to sociopaths, while denied to law abiders.
If you can't defend yourself, surely it is the duty of The State to protect you?

The politicians who ban the guns, ensure that THEY are always well protected by men heavily armed with GUNS...

According to the US Supreme Court rulings, no.

If it can be trusted, (and I don't think the media can be) murder suicides usually increase around the holidays.

"We did not sleep much past 2:30 am last night.

I am very upset than the reverse 911 call did not happen until two hours after the event.

Personally, I would be pi$$ed to get ANY call at 2:30 AM. What purpose does it serve? To tell you that a killer is on the loose? There may well be killers on the loose in your city/town every day (and night) of the year, but that's no reason to wake people up and alarm them in the middle of the night. I would much rather find out the news on the radio/TV the next day.

Trust me when I say I will have no second thought about concealed carrying in my church.
I grew up in a church and there were a few times when there would be people off the streets that would wander up to the pulpit and start yelling and making threats. Sure... the ushers could handle it, but....what if the guy was armed?

Another sick, twisted, demented individual committing a copycat attack.:barf: These people just keep on giving ammuntion to the Brady Campaign, no pun intended.:barf: I agree, he was looking for his two minutes of fame, courtesy of our twisted media, just like they gave Hawkins.:barf::mad::cuss::banghead:
