.45 WST Speer 200gn Load test Update!

Gorgeous! Once had a Colt 70 series Gold Cup. but it was a safe queen, cuz I thought it too valuable to shoot.......so I sold it and bought a Kimber Target 2. But I didn't like the cheap black rubber grips....the G.C. was blued with walnut checkered grips

I found some Rosewood grips for sale so I decided to buy them. So that's the extent of my "custom" work! :) Love the results though.

No checkering tho.......still like it. I like your sights! May have to look for some! Checkering looks hard.... This one is for my bedside safe, except when I take it to the range to practice with.
3D print some Checkering!!! 😊

eye ball, then measure

1.195 to 1.250. I think my seating stem is made for SWC. It has a cup style profile

Yea, so is mine. It does throw the seat depth off on cast bullets, sometimes.

If you are chrono'ing those loads, you will probably have a fairly large SD... which may mean something, or not... accuracy is accuracy. :)

I have a plan… eventually, I’ll measure each bullet and match them with other bullets. That should take care of the SD issues

I got a wild hair up my nose a couple of months after learning to reload, and sat down with 1K Hornady 230gr fmj's with the intention of weight sorting them. After sorting about 750 I had my fill of that. Then I loaded them as carefully and precisely as I could using each weight, 229.9gr, 230.0gr, etc....

I will say that I was severely disappointed in my results. Accuracy was no different than previously loaded rounds with unsorted bullets. I didn't have a chrono so can't speak to ES or SD.

I still have a bunch of those weight sorted bullets in labeled baggies waiting to be loaded. I laugh at myself every time I look at them for the time I wasted that night, and think someday I will finish loading them up.

So I would say, sort enough to do a reasonable test, maybe ten of each weight, and see for yourself. Your results may be very different from mine.

I was at the range a while back, and a guy had a Labradar set up. He was kind enough to let me shoot some of my 185gr coated swc's and get some numbers. I shot about ten rounds and thanked him, I didn't want to take up his time since he was working up a load for competition.

Of the rounds I shot, one was around 790 fps, the rest were between 830~860 fps. Interesting stuff.

Let’s see how these do, then we can work it together! We can call it OT load test!

Now I need to figure out why my Roberts D gun has a extractor problem, it’s not grabbing the case rim

I have had to replace the extractor in my Thompson/Auto-Ordnance twice in the last 20 years. That’s a lot for a 1911A1. After some investigation I determined it was the case rims. I use a lot of mixed brass of unknown origin and a lot of times the rims are skewed or have bends in them. That puts uneven pressure on the extractor.

If they’re just loose I bend them a little to tighten them up but once they get a chip in the tooth they’re done. I only put maybe a thousand rounds tops through that gun in a year so it’s not like it sees a lot of use but that’s the gun that gets all the hot caliente loads and mixed garbage brass.

I’ll pull out the extractor later tonight. I tried 5 different ammo profile and same thing. So! RD might still be the SWC target gun!

1911… If everything goes good LOVE
1911… When things getS funky HATE

That extract was completely gunked up! WOW! looks like dried Cosmoline

after testing the extract with know good 1911. It’s too tight, I’ll loosen it tonight. This gun is definitely not broken in. But with a good slingshot it loaded the SWC. Just a little pressure off and it should be good… I think

The T-Sauce is $300 and Dremel bits were like $5. It’s my test gun. The Night Hawk is a good target gun but that’s just going to be man Jewelry. The Robert Defense was going to be my SWC target gun… But it won’t feed SWC, need to find a roll for that gun.

So, I need a 45 Target Gun. Gold Cup is calling me! “Please shoot me Mark”
Try a different SWC. My guns feed the H&G #68 style SWC (Lee version) from either a CMC (Chip McCormick) or Wilson magazine like tap-water. They do need to be seated near flush with the leading edge of the bearing surface to fully chamber due to short chambers.

I’m still trying to figure out what a, “T-sauce dremal,” is. Tartar sauce??? I don’t speak Seattle Hipster. 🤪

the 1911 is interesting, 100+ years of evolution! Combos of Mags + Ammo Profiles + Springs + Powder

LOVE IT
