I just got an order from Midway USA that included 10 50 round MTM Caseguard ammo boxes in blue for .40S&W. I usually include 5 or 10 with orders to make the most use of the shipping costs.

I was surprised to see that they've altered them. They now have the actual hinges, like the 100 round boxes. Those that disliked or hated the one piece flex hinge they used to have should be pleased. It never really mattered to me, since the old flex hinges have worked for me for decades. After playing with them for a few minutes, they sure do open and close nice though.

It seems that all the dimensions are the same and they do stack and interlock just fine on the old style.

The hinge is the new design. I think they're still working through their old stock since I ordered some a couple of months ago that had the hinge and the ones that came in last week was just the bent plastic at the back.

I have also gotten some boxes from Midsouth Shooters Supply that had the Midsouth logo on them and also had the hinge.

I like the new hinge. I've been getting mine recently at Runnings farm supply. They are 3.99 each for the CG50. any size. Much cheaper than I can get them online. I still have some originals with the flex hinge from the mid 70s that still intact.

The hinge is a huge improvement. The flex 'hinge' work hardens and separates after years of use. I have ~ 8 that are in two pieces.
Yes, they are old but it would be nice if they didn't have to be replaced due to hinge failure.

The old style flex hinge would only allow the lid to stay open so far. Making it clumsy, with one hand, to remove/place reloads in the last 1 or 2 back rows.
Once I find a good source for the new ones, I will order several. :)

These were an especially good deal. I placed this order during my birthday pricing period and these only cost me $1.46 each....and they didn't increase my shipping costs.

MTM is a great company. They replaced a 100rd 9mm box with a broken latch, no questions. I had a new one in hand in 3 days with free shipping!
