I seem to recall reading that some commercial 6.55x55 brass was not quite to spec. If I recall correctly, it was because the maker(s?) was/were forming the brass from stock used for other cases that had slightly different head sizes or something along those lines.

Does this ring a bell? What are your preferences for loading the 6.55mm Mauser???

JNewell,

You're right. I can't remember the exact dimensions, but (all?) the American 6.5X55 brass makers use the standard head size (.30-'06, .308, etc), I believe. Lapua and Norma use the other size. The size doesn't make much difference, I don't think.

While the size doesn't make much difference, the brass quality (dimensions) from Lapua and Norma is higher. I bought Lapua, figuring that the additional bucks I spent there would keep me from having to do a lot of case prep on virgin brass and would keep me from having to buy a Sinclair concentricity gauge...

I understand Winchester brass is the pick of the litter among American brass makers lately.

Lapua,

More expensive but worth it. I use it for 30-06 and 9.3x62 as well. Very consistant.
