I was at the fun shop today, where I watched a guy pay the owner $220 for a case of Wolf black box FMJ. That sort of threw me, since I know that you can (or could) still get them for well less than $200 on your own. I'm all for supporting the local guy, but only if his stuff is reasonable.

Now SG isn't advertising 1,000 rounds of MC HP, and the price on the MC FMJ looks to have gone up about $5 again. And, the owner told me that his source for Wolf is stating that it's going up almost $20 a case shortly.

Dang. I just looked at CtD. This is getting somewhat depressing. Glad I have some.

Well, don't stop buying it. Get as much as you can. Stock up like Y2K is coming again... because future availability is in question and prices are only going up.

My local shop has Wolf black box for $129.00 for 500 rounds. It's still going up.

This tax rebate has me thinking about the price on 2k of 7.62x39.

hoard the centerfire stuff.
shoot the rimfire.

if you must get some recoil,
shoot surplus MBR rounds... after 60 or so you'll feel ok and can go back to rims.

As long as people jump to buy at inflated prices, they'll keep raising prices. Everybody is falling for this the same as they did for housing prices. There is false demand right now being driven by panic. If you need some, buy some. If you're worried about legislation in the near term, buy some. If you're buying just because of seemingly ever-increasing prices, wait.

false demand? what are you talking about? have you looked copper and lead prices lately? Have you tried to buy copper or lead lately?

I work for machine shops. For the first time in memory, Metals wholesalers are having difficulty getting anything remotely odd. things like HNV-3 valve steel on on allocation nation wide.

1/3 of the worlds population is moving into the first world, very rapidly. there is a tremendous increase in demand, and very little increase in supply.

Supply is short due to the war. That is a fact. Same for fuel. Same for just about anything metal. Once the war is over, there will be a major jump in the economy. I say this because this is what has happend after every single war we have been in. Just chill. Good times are ahead!

Yep. Just think of all that cheap US surplus 5.56 and 7.62 we'll be able to get our hands on at the end of the day!

In fairness, there is A LOT more 7.62 x 39 Soviet around these days than a year or two ago. Next to 5.56/.223 it looks like a bargin at .25 a pull for wolf.

George, I have a hard time telling if you're being serious; do you really we should hoard up?

Absolutely.
All our distributors have no idea when our next order can be filled.
Most are not even taking any more orders for the 7.62 or .223. So yes, get it if you can get it.
If more comes out and prices drop... great. But if not, you are going to be OUT OF LUCK.
And if we get Dems in the White House... sheesh.
Ammo is our Achilles heel. If the Anti-Gunners can crimp our ammo supply, they have effective Gun Control without any legislation.

Somehow, I doubt that. Clinton supposedly signed an executive order so that US military surplus ammo would never be available to citizens unless demilled into component, less powder. I have yet to find the specific executive order, but have little doubt that this is true.

George may, in fact, be kidding, but what's to stop the brilliant minds on Capitol Hill from deciding that no one in their right minds needs to have enough ammunition to never have to buy it again, much less count on it as a resource in a difference of opinion with a government unmindful of its duty to its constituent citizenry?

I think prices will go through the roof, and even much more catastrophically, depending upon what happens between now and this November. Folks criticize others for binge purchasing and hoarding, but what happens if they suddenly interdict the supply?

Good ole Days

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I remember just post 9/11 you could get a .30 cal ammo box of 900- 1000rds DELIVERED to your door for $90!
Hell, I remember back around 92 when you could pick up a chicom SKS and case of ammo for $99 at the lake county show!

LMAO, It would be funnier if it wasn't true! I screwed up though and waited until the passage of the '94 Omnibus crime control act... Picked up a beautiful Russian for $200... I really thought I got hosed at the time! My how times change!

shortage???

shoot slow and careful.get reloading tools and supplies.get molds and furnace.
get cap and ball guns and make your own black powder.:uhoh:--
--:banghead:--:neener:---:)---:)---:D

yea, if there is one thing keeping me from buying my own gun, it has to be ammo prices. You'd figure that it could cost as much as 50 bucks an outing depending on what you shoot, if not more.
