7.62x39 rifles other than AK

Texan Scott is right about the yugo sks. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a hog at 100 yds with mine.
I liked what he said about the cosmoline because when I got mine I didnt know the bolt still had cosmoline in it. It would fail to fire because the bolt was still gummed up with the junk. Took it home and gave it a good scrubbing and it was good to go after that. With good ammo I can shoot ~3" at 100 yds.

Which savage action would be best to use for a rebarrel to 7.62x39? In terms of mag length, bol t, and overall length and weight.

Looks like a nice one. Does it come with hole plugs if you take off the scout rail. If not where to get those?

What kind of accuracy are people getting with the savage. I am wondering how its 308 bore will like all my Wolf 123 gr. HP.

CZ 527 here, mine consistently puts Russian ammo in the black at 200 yards.

I like some things about the 7.62 39 but why screw up a bolt gun with that round. There are dozens of better rounds for a bolt gun.

Foe what it's worth, the 30-30 is balistically about the same and slightly better than the 7.62x39. As such you could get a handy 30-30 lever action.

If, on the other hand someone already HAD a cheap AK and considerable stockpile of HP or SP 7.62x39, finding a rifle for hunting, with a good bbl properly threaded into a solid rxr, THAT WOULD SHARE AMMO might make good sense.

hence the thread.

I would not think twice about taking a shot at a hog at 100 yds with my Yugo.
Agree with the others when they say get all the cosmoline off and out of the SKS. It takes some time, patience and effort, but once your done. They can be a great inexpensive rifle. I put a pair of Williams Fire sights on mine and it improved the accuracy dramatically. I think mine is slightly more accurate in the grenade mode than it is in the semi auto mode.

No cheap Savage 7.62x39 barrels in the market if you are thinking of shooting cheap steel case ammo. Won' make much sense to put expensive custom order barrel for cheap ammo plinking. I built x39 mausers and shoot them more than my 308s.

How about a Bren in 7.62x39?
