I'm wondering what ammo you all have had the best results with for the 7mm Remington Magnum cartridge? I am most interested in target loads and hunting loads at ranges from 100 yards up to 800 yards if possible. Factory ammo is what I'm looking for, but any reloading info would also be welcomed.

I'm partial to the Federal Premium Nosler Accubond in 160 grain and the Horandy Custom 162 gr Interlock loadings. Both have anchored many mule deer for me at various ranges from 50 to 300 plus yards, and I've never had a deer run more than a stone's throw

My old favorite load was 139gr ssts over a max charge of 4350 or 4831 depending on what i could get, recoil is minimal, accuracy has been good, and terminal performance dosent leave much to be desired unless you require small holes.

Right now im using 168grn bergers at just under a max charge of Retumbo (3kish out of my gun) and so far they have proved very very effective on game and targets. If im shooting factory i usualy reach for remington or hornady ammo of an appropriate weight, and bullet type, so far ive not be let down.

I have had very good results in fac Rem Corelokt since they completely revamped their ammo plant. I had a 30min conversation with the mgr after trying it in several guns and cals and they ranged from 3/8in to 3/4in for 3 shots at 100. I have been telling all my customers who do not reload to try it. With the regular jacketed pill and then the "Ultra", you have several loads to try (prob 6 or so) in your rifle. Lazzeroni uses it in their ammo and states "you can't get a bullet to fly farther and straighter than a corelokt".

Nosler 160gr Accubond
61gr IMR 4831
Fed 215 Primer
2850 fps
This load is very accurate in my Win model 70 and has taken elk out to 450 yards.

Are you hunting at 800yd or target shooting? I don't trust any factory fodder past 300 in any of my rifles, especaly when my hunt is on the line. What are you hunting? For deer a Burger VLD will provide top notch accuracy and good expansion, but if you want to hunt elk at long range the 7mm rem mag is a tad on the weak side even if you were a good enough to hit your target under field conditions. I personaly won't shoot a living thing past 500 even with my 270 WSM which is a bit faster and flatter then any 7mm rem mag load.

175 SGK w/63 gr H4831,my rifle is throated and their seated out,140 NBT 65 gr H4831,I've also used 78gr H870 w /140 or 150 NBT [ this powder no longer avail, when my 8 lbs is gone..... ]I have 160 NAB but hav'nt loaded any yet.

To clarify a few questions, I practice out to 800, but shots on prey would probably not go past 500. The most would be 600, but only because of my faith in my rifle.

For those of you recommending the Remington Core-Lokt's - thanks for the info. Those look like solid rounds to baseline some hand loads against.

While core locks are great in the woods, don't use them at long range. The BC of there bullets is not up to par with the Nosler and Burger bullets. I would stick with the poly tip boat tails or the VLD HPs past 300 yards.
