870 Wingmaster Front Bead???

Hey guys, I have a new 870 Wingmaster (built in 2007 I believe).

It has an ivory front bead and I would like to change it out for a fiber optic bead.

Is the factory ivory bead just screwed in? How do I replace it?

Wingmaster's have threaded beads.

Removal "can" be a problem because the small shank sometimes snaps off when attempts are made to unscrew it.
Support the bead as well as possible, and don't cause it to tip to one side as you unscrew it.
Try to keep the shank straight as it unscrews.

When installing a new bead, you'll probably have to shorten the shank inside the barrel, since most will stick out.
Use a Dremel with a rubber tip or fine cut file to remove the excess, then polish smooth and flush with the bore.

Express models have pressed in beads.

Thanks for your answer dfariswheel, but I am a little confused.

I thought the rib on the barrel was just tapped and a bead was screwed in... What is a shank?


The "bead" on the end of my gun consists of a black ring that looks like small washer with a small ivory bead in the center. Does the whole assembly come off (washer thing, and ivory bead) or does just the ivory bead come off?

The shank is the threaded "stem" that actually screws into the barrel.
I'd assumed you had a plain barrel.

Since you have a rib, you won't need to shorten the shank. Just screw the new bead in until it gets tight.
Don't over do it, since they will break off.
You might put a dab of Loctite Blue on the threads to prevent it from vibrating out.

Remington says the threads on their barrels is .146x48.

Ahhh, that makes sense now. The factory bead is on there pretty tight, guess I will just have to use a little more force.

I ordered the 6-48, I hope that is the size I need.
It said that is the size I need for the 870 on TRU GLO's website.

Way too much trouble. Get a Hi-Viz magnetic fiber optic that sticks on the rib behind the factory bead. I paid $10.
