I'm trying to get 147 gr. subs to cycle in an M&P 2.0 with a Silencerco Omega. Load is 3.5 gn. of TiteGroup, CCI primer. Max load is 3.6 gn. Went to an 11# recoil spring, and almost fixed it. Getting about 75% cycle rate. As far as I know, no one makes a 10# recoil spring. Ideas, please? Different powder?

What bullet and OAL are you using?

Hodgdon load data is for JHP loaded to 1.100" - https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/reloading-data-center
  • 9mm 147 gr Hornady XTP Titegroup COL 1.100" Start 3.2 gr (855 fps) - Max 3.6 gr (929 fps)
If you are using FMJ/FP at longer OAL, you may need to bump up the powder charge to cycle the slide with suppressor.

Have you tried 3.6 gr at shorter OAL to see if slide cycles?

They're Berrys 147 RN.

I’m wondering if TiteGroup isn’t too fast for that combination. If you have any No.5 or True Blue I would suggest giving them a try. In my 142gr JTC bullets I had to use Unique to get them to cycle reliably. No.5 works too and is easier to find right now. On the other end of the spectrum is Competition. It’s real fast burning. I use it for lighter bullets. I don’t know anything about the silencerco. I don’t use them myself.

I've loaded 147 gr .356 in coated flat nose bullets with 3.0 gr of Titegroup and it runs fine in a Beretta 92 and Cx4 carbine. No suppressor though.

Avg 958 fps from the carbine so I'm sure it was in the 800's from the pistol. Unfortunately, I didn't record those numbers. Next time.

I don't think it's the powder. It should work fine with the stock recoil spring.

I have loaded many thousands of Berrys 147’s @ 1.160 with 3.2 gn of Titegroup. They run in everything I have tried except the ported barrels of the MP5 SD. Barrel ports on those firearms bleed off too much pressure.

Of course that won’t help you as you are already above that and still not functioning. Do you have any slower powders you could try, maybe in the area of HS-6 just to see if you can get them to run? I always prefer the faster powders for suppressed use but that’s worthless if the gun won’t run.

I’m pretty sure the OP has a pistol, not a PCC but maybe that needs some clarification? The advice about pistons has me a little confused, to be honest.
@GSPKurt Gilchrist is just down the road from me if you want to try No.5 or True Blue I can give you some to work up loads.

Yes, I have a piston. No offense taken. Sonetimes the most obvious gets overlooked. I lubed up everything and that eliminated the problem. It's a S&W M&P Compact 2.0 pistol.
I will try some #5 and Unique (don't have the others) and see how it behaves.
Thank you all for your input.

What did you use for lube?

3.5 TG with a gallant 147 cast, or zero 147 fmj is my sub load. Used with an osprey and a hybrid 46. Runs in all my 9's, with or without a can. Probably a dozen guns. Check your oal, check your gun. Something odd going on. Osprey on pistols with piston, hybrid 46 on pcc's with asr.

Edit, back in the office so I pulled up my logs...my sub load for 147's is 3.0 grains of TG, way less than OPs. Definitely fishy, go back and check all the basics, you've got something else going on, either gun or load process. That load cycles in all my guns with and without cans, and I have a LOT of 9mm's.

Not sure if this helps any as I don't have a can on my M9. I had similar issues with short stroking and not cycling with light loads. I load and shoot Extreme's 147gr HP. Cycling and short stroking problems went away when I changed out the factory recoil spring with a Wolffe 9# spring. My reloads now cycle and shoot very well now. Average velocity for me is around 825 to 850 fps.

Lightest spring I can find is an 11# for that gun.

My 92X Centurion chocked on a few Freedom Munitions 147 gr rounds (New) after I mounted an optic.

As for your velocities, keep in mind factory Beretta 92 barrels run wide and everything seems to come out slower as if the barrel is an inch shorter. I'm not even counting the extra boost polygonal barrels get.
