Im looking for a compact 9mm, not a sub compact. Are these choices previously stated some of the best out there or are there other choices that anyone would recommend?

Check out the SIG P228 or P229.
Or the CZ-75C or P01.
Or the H&K P2000K.
I think those are the "best out there" of the compact (not subcompact) 9s.

I have had the XD Compact. It was nice, but a bit smallish for my hands. The G26 also is pretty small for me. Now, my G19C, that fits like a glove.

Glock. Second Choice is S&W.

I like the bigger bores better, but in 9mm (well, you asked) #1 choice is Glock 17 - I wouldn't hesitate to carry the smaller Glocks if I had one.

My second choice is S&W - I have an original Mod 59 that eats ALL AMMO types and weights - can't whine about that. My 3906 is nearly as flawless. Neither one of them are "compact" but like I said - my #1 choice is Glock, for the slight edge in reliability and a definite edge (in my hands) in ergonomics.

I went with the XD9. I plan on getting one sometime in the next.... well, when I can afford it. Probably in the next year or so.

I like the fit and feel, has natural POA for me, controls are where I want them, and it's a whole bunch easier to conceal than my Ruger P89.

If you want compacts and not sub-compacts:

Any of the following should be seriously considered before purchasing anything:
I prefer the top 3, but the others are top notch as well.
G19
HK P2000
CZ P-01
SIG P228/239
HK USPc
CZ 75b compact
SIG SP2022

As you can tell, I'm partial to SIGs (triggers), Glocks (Simplicity), HKs (Style), and CZs (super good value).

Kel Tec P11, only 1/8" wider than a PF9 & the same size or smaller in every other dimensions & 13 round capacity. Mines been very reliable & with the belt clip carries extremely well.

Brian, you don't need the S&W mags anymore. KT makes a flush fit 12 rounder that works great.

S&w 3913!

S&W 3913, or a S&W 908 if money is tight. The two are basically the same, but the 908 is a "budget" model that lacks a few features found on the 3913. Just use the extended magazine baseplates if you have bigger hands.

I owned a 908, but I sold it when I bought my Glock. About a year later, I sorely missed my S&W and traded the Glock for a 3913. So, the best thing about my Glock was that it enabled me to upgrade my S&W 908 to a S&W 3913! :neener:

HK P2000, again. Full Ambi controls and 13 shots (9mm). Small enough for IWB comfort big enough to shoot well. LEM trigger with light springs---very smooth.

Will let ya know, but I'd bet big on..

...

Done a lot of reading within this forum about the new Springfield 1911 EMP 9mm, and checked one out at my gun dealer. Have to say, sweet action, sweet SAO trigger, nine round mags, comes with 3, for a 9 + 1 single stack load of full 9mm, with Novak night sights and comes with an OWB kydax holster with mag pouch, from the factory. Besides their warranty, on-going.

Sweet feel, weight, action, looks, locked and cocked CCW 3" gun..

Ya might want to check one out..

I pick up mine in 10 days, can't wait. IF it's anything like my Colt Defender, I'm gonna be in Heaven, because my wife is gonna love it too..

I recommend carrying a Sig 239 9mm. It's a slim single stack, but it retains good slide mass for recoil absorption. For me, it is the perfect off duty gun because I carry a Sig 226 9mm on duty and all the controls are in the same location and the general feel of the pistols are very similar. So, it reduces training time and doesn't confuse my muscle memory. Like the old sayings go, "The mother of skill is repetition."......and "Fear the man with only one gun, he will know how to use it."

from that list...go other.
if your budget is tight look at cz
if it's got some flex go sig 229 or 239
