9mm Nato in 9mm luger barrel???

Bought a new Kel tec p-11... chambered in 9mm luger... by accident picked up some 9mm nato...

cycled a few rounds after cleaning and lubing and the rounds were difficult to eject....when ejected the brass was scratched....

i heard the nato casings are thicker..

could this be my issue??

thanks!

You heard wrong.

All 9mm ammo has to be made to a pretty specific outside case dimension to fit any 9mm chamber.

If NATO cases were too big to fit in a Kel-Tec, they would be too big to fit in a Beretta M-9 too.

I'd suggest you carefully inspect the inside edges of the magazine feed lips, the feed ramp, and the rear of the chamber for any sharp edges or burs.

If you find any, polish them or round them off slightly with fine black emery paper wrapped around a stick.

Shot some luger 115gr today... shot fine....
same type of scratches on the brass i recoverd but not as deep???

I appreciate the info!

The P11 can handle +P, however, not a steady diet of it. Since 9mm NATO falls somewhere between "regular" 9mm and +P, I'm guessing pressure is one of the causes of the OP's issue - that and it's a new chamber.

Is the 9mm NATO the SMG round?

No. Well, it can be..

Confused yet? :D

9MM NATO is the term for a standardized load of the venerable 9x19 or 9MM Luger ammo. The intention of the 'NATO' standard is for the ammo to be the same amongst all the military services of the NATO alliance. In the event of a war any nation's NATO ammo would be the same and work in all weapons that use that ammo.

It's fortunate that the 9MM NATO is the same as 9x19 and will work fine in civilian guns.

I'm thinking what other's have said. The OP has a new gun and it needs to be broken in. Or maybe there is a magazine feed issue causing the scratches.

Pics would be nice.

"It's fortunate that the 9MM NATO is the same as 9x19"

Standardized, yes. Same as 9x19, no. I won't shoot real 9mm NATO ammo in guns that aren't rated for 9mm +P. My Rohrbaugh for instance. There's a pressure difference and likely a velocity difference if it's real 9mm NATO. I don't think WWB 9mm NATO is real. It seems weak to me.
