So there are some really good deals floating around right now on Savage rifles and they have a $75 rebate. I've been toying with the idea of buying one in 30-06 specifically to swap out with a new Shaw 9.3x62 barrel. Not expecting the world but a safari gun for $500 seems like something that just should be done. Is there any specific reasons not to try it with an Axis such as stock recoil concerns or likely feed issues?

The size of the ejection port may be a hindrance.

The Savage magazine is ...sub par

Stock will need to be swapped out along with the recoil lug.

Trigger is made of sintered metal so stoning it isn't a great idea.

I'm bias and don't like the axis though. I really like most of savage in general.

Spend a few more bucks and get a normal savage. Recoil with the axis stock would suck. 9.3 is a great cartridge. Easy to make from 06 but ppu ammo is so cheap it's not worth the time. It would make a nice heavy brush gun.
you could always get a gun and have it rebored, think it around $200.
