I will be putting two scopes on two rifles. The two rifles are: Savage .308, and Savage 300 Win Mag. Other than the chamberings, the rifles have identical features. This was by design.

I would like to put an optic on each rifle. Cost matters, but I also understand that the lower the cost = lower the quality, in most cases. What I am concerned with is value. If I need to wait a little longer to buy the right scopes, I can, and will.

These rifles are intended for hunting, not competitive shooting. I am thinking that a 3-9x40mm for the .308, and a 4-12x50 for the 300 WM would be reasonable.

Consistency is important to me, I like the idea of each rifle being as close to the other as possible, and the only real reason I'm putting a larger scope on the WM is the longer 'hunting range' of that chambering. So, I'm thinking I'd look for the same model, just different scope sizes. That way, the reticle would be the same, the features the same, etc.

Is this decent thinking, or am I being silly?

I did get to look through a Leupold vx2 recently, and I liked it. I also got to look through the Nikon Monarch and I liked it as well. Are there other brands I should consider in that price point?

Thanks,
PE

I think your logic is fine. I have a pair of rifles in .223 and .308 that wear identical Bushnell Elite 4200s so that everything from sight picture to adjustments look and work the same way. You may want to check out the 3200 and 4200 series.

I do like the Monarchs, too, and have one in 4-16x40 that is very nice.
