Anyone seen that ADT home alarm system comercial. The one where single mom and kinds are at home in the living room and mom walks out to the kitchen, sees a guy at the back door trying to break-in? The guy breaks the glass in the backdoor and she runs by the ADT control unit, presses the panic button and then runs upstairs with the kids, crowds into the bedroom locks and blocks the door with a chair. ADT calls imediately and gets the police on the line and everything is fine.

Well, I thought it would be a nice take off from that to this:

Same scenario except mom walks into the kitchen, sees the guy breaking in the door <glass breaking>. Mom yells to kids to run upstairs and dial 911 and mom stops at an ADT like-looking control panel. She punches in the code and the lock box opens revealing the Glock 17 9mm. She grabs the gun and rushes back to the kitchen, the guy is trying to open the door from the inside through the broken window. She Yells "Stop or I will shoot!", the guy opens the door and starts to walk in. <camera cut to kids> Kids on phone in bedroom dial 911 <you hear mom in background yell "stop or ..."> First ring, Second ring, Third ring... Kid on phone says "come on pickup, please..." <camera cuts back to mom> freeze frame of mom aiming the glock center mass in a standard two handed stance with the BG in background grinning evil grin. Announcer narrates "When your life is on the line how long do you want to wait for help to arrive? <pause for effect> When everything is at risk do you want to have only a phone or home alarm system between you, <view of mom from front> and him? <cut to closeup of the BG with evil grin>" <cut to closeup of gun in mom's hands> Announcer says "Don't let Congress legislate away your right to choose your own destiny. When it really counts you'll want the tools available to do what must be done." <cut back to kids on phone> Kid on phone hears "We're sorry all lines are busy please stay on the line and your call will be answered, <echo> answered, <echo> answered... <fade out>

Well, waddya think?

I like the idea, but anti folk won't accept it (from personal experience). You'll need to add some factual numbers about time it takes for police to pick up, respond, etc. for people who want to just dismiss it as "emotion provoking tripe" (not that I feel it's tripe, but you get the idea, right?).

Excellent!

The chances of it being aired (even at full ad rates) other than at 3:00 am on local cable public access channel are less than zero.

Mom yells to kids to run upstairs and dial 911 and ....

...Mom stops at an ADT -type lock panel "While I dial 1911...."

Good concept.

From my experiences, it does take along time before the Local Constabulary shows up after they get a call from ABC-XYZ Alarm Monitoring.

Not slamming the police; it takes a while before the monitoring company, frequently located in another city, notices the alarm, then they have to look up the addrees of the "alarmed house", then look up and call the Constabulary for that city, then the police have to dispatch a car, etc.....

HAve seen a couple of these ads

and have always thought - yep, pick up a phone and
cower in some room and HOPE TO HE!! the LEO's show up
before the BG breaks the door down !!
Pathetic.
Like your idea though have to agree w/others here -
'just ain't gonna happen'
A thought for those of you that have alarm systems -
Where is your outside phone line ?? - think about it.
