What year is the barrel marked? I see the newer sights, newer flip safety, but no bayonet band.

There is no date on the barrel that I can see. It says:
SAGINAW S.G. DIV.

Nothing behind the front sight? Don't know if they all have a date, but that is where my Underwood is marked.

I did a little research and the Saginaw barrels had no date marks and the markings in the above post are correct. My Inland is dated.

I do love the M1 carbines and hope that with the load of imports that came in last year, we might see the prices on 30 carbine ammo creep down a bit

Funny thing is I got one of those import Midway guns, which I don't regret, although I do wish more deals like the OP's came my way from time to time. So I've been watching .30 carbine ammo prices for several months, and it seems to be both fairly available and not that much more expensive than any other centerfire ammo that isn't 9mm. I was seeing $30-35 per 50.
