Ok, I need some ideas, we live basically on the borders of town limits and mom says that I cant shoot but 10 rounds a month from my .22 :banghead::cuss::banghead: and I have to go to someone elses place to shoot my .308. And she said no loud pellet guns are going to be allowed in the house. The nearest public rifle range is..... uhhhh two hours one way... no chance of going there.

The thing is I need someway to practice, I mean I dry fire alot (loaded my own dummy snap caps), that is I did dry fire alot, cant until my stock comes for my .308, and after basically a month of no shooting..... my shooting has gone down a few notches. And with the ban on .22 what am I to do?

Thanks for any help yall can give me.

that's better than I've got... I bought a house in the city... :banghead:
How do you afford all that .308 ammo if you live with your ma?

Get several (4-6)old tires and fill them full of something soft (like fiberglass insulation).

Lash them together and find some way to suspend them the right height (or put them on saw horses or something).

That should quiet your gun down quite a bit and still be legal.

The other option is to spring for a can (and the extra $200 to pay off the feds)

your a senior in high school at only 15? Hell your mom should be proud that you made it that far that fast and let you shoot as much as you damn well please as long as your grades are up.

Report Card Trick

Nice thing about being old is remembering Reports Cards being brought home and getting a Mom to sign them. :)

1. Write a note to the effect of:
I will get Sniper4Life a suppressor/ suppressed firearm if he makes an "A" on his next ____ test.

2. Catch mom at a bad time.
Before she has her coffee, in a hurry, all flustered about something and does not have her mind on what she is doing.

3. Make an "A" in _____

4. Present Mom with the paper she signed in Blue Ink where she agreed to get you a suppressor /suppressed firearm.

;)

Who is going to represent him when his mother backs out on her contractual obligations lol :scrutiny:

JLStorm,
Work with me here would ya?
We were 15 once.

"It is for the teenagers" :p

Any chance of me gaining Sainthood went right out the window by age three - me.

Said different ways perhaps, but that was the gist of what was said by Maternal Grandma , Mentors, and most anyone that knew/knows me...

:D

I remember what it was like to be 15 and want to go shooting.

I'm kind of warming up to the idea of AirSoft for those days when I don't feel like burning expensive ammo, or the weather just sucks too much to travel, or its just late at night, and I've got an itchy trigger finger. Except that the guns I would like are mighty expensive. I don't think I'd like the cheap stuff.

Where in Virginia do you live that its two hours to a range (or at least a place where its "legal to shoot")?

You would be considered as a "junior" shooter if you want to shoot competition in Virginia. A lot of clubs are champing at the bit for guys like you to take advantage of their programs. If that sort of thing interests you, shoot me a message, and I can point you to some contacts who might be able to provide you with quality trigger time.

Good Ideas

I like the shooting through the tires idea. Have to try that. I always wanted to build an underground range with a fan to blow out the exhaust. Use 36 to 50 inch concrete pipe as the range. I live in town now but grew up where I could shoot all I wanted. Miss those days.

I also have a couple of pellet rifles and a .22 bullet trap which I set up down the hall of the house (about 25 feet). When my kids were home we used it quite a lot. Now they are gone and I use it once in a while. Good cheap practice. Have to keep a watch for the cats and dog and wife from exiting one of the side rooms but that keeps my mind sharp :)

"It is for the teenagers"

Haha! That would be the best form 4 ever!

"I, Sniper4Life's Mom, have a reasonable necessity to possess the suppressor described on this application for the following reason(s): IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN!!!"

What's the objection to pellet guns? Perhaps you should explain to your mother that target-grade pellet rifles and pistols aren't toys, and are used by shooters on our and other countries' Olympic shooting teams. For the record I know another 15 year-old who lived in rural Arizona and actually made the U.S. Team. He also turned out to be an outstanding adult. It is also a fact that many of our best firearms target shooters practice with pellet guns.

Pellet guns are not lethal as long as you follow the standard four safety rules. They can safely be shot inside a building. The standard distance is 33 feet (10 meters), but you can reduce that to 20 feet. There is no smoke or noise, and the cost of pellets is very reasonable when compared to cartridges. Last time I checked air was free, but I suppose the anti-gun crowd will want to change that.

Oh, and it beats dry fireing... :D

Old Fuff,

Well Golly-Gee-Whiz and Darn
I am trying to get the young man a Supressor, would you at least pay attention, follow along and try to help ?
:D

*Sigh* da Old Fuff makes sense even if he does live a cave...;)

I really believe in these quality air guns, rifles and pistols for quality practice.

Heck I know what a Red Ryder and similar will do to teach Shotgunning and other shooting lessons too.

I'm sure he would prefer the supressor, but I'm not sure about his mom... :uhoh:

Anyway, superior skill depends on practice, and unless the government is buying the ammunition there are limits - financial and otherwise.

You can do a lot of constructive practicing with a pellet rifle/pistol.

The Old Fuff knows...

22 shorts about about as quiet as a pellet gun. I used to pop squawky crows and blue jays out of a certain tree in the backyard at that age frequently. I didn't live in the country, but it wasn't suburbia either.

Good alternative to keep noise down. Is that what a 22 CB is?

I don't know sniper4lifes mom, but I can tell you that my mom has a strict moratorium on me shooting anything BUT pellet rifles when I was his age and in fact until I graduated high school and moved out. My mom is pro-2A and an occasionaly shooter, but she is also very over-protective. I could have saved a baby from drowning, graduated from college at 14 and won the lottery and there was still no way in hell she would have let me shoot anything but the pellet rifle. I hate to be the cynic as I am sure Mother Sniper4life is a delightful lady, but this may just be something that has to be suffered through until young Sniper4life is on his own....

It bears mentioning that when I say nothing but the pellet rifle, I mean when I was unsupervised. If my dad or my step-dad were with me, I could have shot artillery pieces off for all she cared. In fact, when I was a kid my dad and his buddies built a fairly large cannon, and I did go along shooting with them! Interesting note on that, if any of you Coloradoans ever happen to be at a Fort Lupton football game, they still have that cannon, and they fire it off after every touchdown.

i would seriously look for a nice air rifle. the pump kind. i think they're quieter than the spring kind(air as opposed to spring), i could be wrong. then you just need some news paper for a back stop and you're good to go. you can build skills in either iron sites or scope. i'm thinking about one myself to save money, but right now i can still afford .22 :D

oh, and i feel for you on the "no guns in the house" mom, or whatever your mom says. i guess i cant honestly offer any advice. i still live at home durring the summers because i'm in college. i was 20 when i bought my first rifle. not so much as a BB gun before that, just friends with guns. i asked my parents what they thought of me buying a rifle, they didnt think much of it, so i bought one. they told me to just keep it locked and i did. everybody happy. then i bought a shotgun... and a pistol... and now they're wondering...

Sm, already tried that to get my round count up to 100, but she wont do it cause she knows that she is gonna lose. The only thing that I cant get an a in is spanish.

.22 shorts in a marlin 60 dont work well. And neither does subsonic and other low velocity ammo, tends to jam about,....uhh every shot.

Apparently she heard a pellet gun somewhere and it was "loud" right now I am looking at airsoft or something...

We did try to get a range here in highland but everyone didnt want it because everyone has the "back forty" to shoot on, and the people in town, well they can just live with it.

W.E.G sent you a message, I have been wanting to compete for a while but have no clue about how it works.

What kind of ammo are you shooting now? You should be able to find some standard velocity rounds that will still operate your Marlin and still be quieter than what you are shooting now.

Can you build a small enclosure with 2-3 sides to reduce the sound going into the house?

Check with your extension office for a 4-H shooting group. VA isn't as strong as MD but I do know some counties have them. My Sister was the head coach in Stafford county for a while. It also looks like you're close to WV check with the nearby counties for 4-H clubs as well.
