Here is one I carved out of 01 Tool Steel then heat treated and tempered and added cocobolo scales with a super glue finish.

Just got the Buck Marksman!
Nice! Tell me more. I've read this one has ball bearings on the pivot. Does the speed and smoothness of flipper opening meet expectations? How's the lock up? Can you release the lock one handed?

The ball bearings combined with lack of any detent, makes the blade literally swing freely. It's so different than any folder I have. I don't know how they did it, but it's actually like an assisted or auto with how fast and easy it opens. I have the Buck Vantage and Benchmade 300sn, both flippers, but they are ones you use your wrist to flick open. The Marksman takes no wrist action at all it just flies out.

The lock I like, but I'm still getting used to it. Safety wise because the blade swings so easy I have been using one hand on the lock one finger is fine, and one hand on the blade. The "nips" on the tang engage the lock and are what also engage to keep the blade closed.

ESEE Candiru. A great small fixed blade knife. Knecker size, but I pocket or belt carry mine.

DIY guy,
Nice work!
What did you use to carve the steel?

I should have said “drilled”, “filed” , “ground”, “scratched” theO1 tool steel.

Here is the process I used to make it.

I have done lots of filing on the back edge of knives I make but this goes beyond that.

The blade is O1 flat ground annealed.

Files and chisels help remove the material from the openings. It's pretty slow going.

I use a Dremmel tool were ever I can.

I have it pre-beveled but not completly and will finish the bevel after I heat treat the blade.

I used a chisel to add texture to the vines and then applied gun bluing to color just the vines.

DIY, that is a beaut! You sure put a lot of work into your knife and it shows!

Do you keep it in a pocket sheath, or is that a "belter"?

Here's my latest knife acquisition. Modified 2.5" 1095 sheepsfoot blade with ivory scales by Northwoods Knives. Came in a leather pocket sheath. It's kind of an "old pattern that never was" -bit of an oddball, which is probably why I like it. Been my main pocket knife since I got it end of last year, sheath is developing a nice burnished look and the ivory is starting to take on a creamy color. 1095 steel is sharp, haven't needed to touch-up the edge yet even though I've been using this for any chore that comes along. Opens & closes with nice tight "snap".

5/32" 1084 from Aldo.

Triple normalized, quenched in double aught rapeseed oil.

Asymetrical right handed full flat grind with double convex final bevels.

Dig that stairstepped plunge. :p

The tracking on my grinder is giving me fits. :banghead:

Best yet Sam!

Thanks!

I'm crash coursing myself into being a knifemaker, trying to finish one knife a day, start to finish, without batch tasking anything. I'll take any and all criticisms. :)

..and without fellow moderator JShirley's words of encouragement I'd have never had the confidence get out into the shop and make sparks.

John, I love you bro!
