Academy Sports 7.62x39 $150.00 per 1000

I am not sure if this is the correct area or not but thought I'd share that Academy has Monarch 7.62x39 ammo priced at $2.99 per box of 20. Not sure if this is in the DFW area only or not. The shelf price is around $4.80 but it rings up $2.99. This ends up to be around $150.00 plus tax per 1000. About the cheapest I've seen in quite some time. A friend at work asked at a store near his house and said it was only being offered until today (Saturday) so if you have been wanting a little extra AK ammo this would be as cheap as you'll find it.

Monarch appears the same as Barnaul if I am correct and made in Russia.

The Academy store I went to said pretty much what is on the shelf or in the rack in front of it is all they have and do not store any ammo in the back.
 
It has been seen in Houston, as well.

"Monarch" is Academy's store brand and this particular caliber is produced by Barnaul.
 
Ya, they have tons in stock as well. As soon as people start buying more, the prices will shoot back up. I got some today and yesterday. I give it a month or two before the prices go back up.
 
The store in Tyler was out. Guy told me a man got like six boxes for some range time and when he saw the price he went back and got ALL they had.

The same guy also told someone that is not safe to shoot 223 out of a sig 556 because it has 556 on the barrel.

Academy is a Texas based company with stores in the southern United States.
 
I was just about to post a thread on this, but luckily I saw this one. I used to work in the Fishing and Hunting department at Academy and am good friends with the H&F manager at our local Academy. I went in today and he told me about the sale and said that somehow someone at corporate slipped up on the 7.62x39 order and added an extra zero to the order amount :uhoh: So according to him academy got 500,000 boxes of 7.62x39 instead of 50,000 :D, hence the drop in price. He said that he could get me as much as I wanted at $2.99 and would have it there by Thursday. You may want to talk to your local Academy's Fishing and Hunting manager and ask about getting some more in. This is just what he told me and not the word of god, but he has always been a reliable source of information. I plan on picking up a couple thousand rounds for my father and friends this week.
 
I didn't see too much on the shelf, but I'm not sure how much they had elsewhere. I didn't even realize the price until I'd left the store and was on the way to my dentist appointment. I started thinking that my total was too low for what I got. I checked the receipt and saw that it had rang up at $2.99/box instead of $4.86/box. I should have gone back and got some more.
 
my local Academy has some left.... I came home with a 1000 rounds myself.....they also had a sign up saying this price is good thru the end of December. I'll be back for more.....
 
the scoop is, it will be this price, through december, to sell as much of their inventory as possible. After that, no more. this is the time , boys, to get to the mystical number of 10k for one of your calibers. every academy I have checked so far, have been out.
