Hello, new to the site.

I am picking up a Savage Axis II XP in .308 in the next couple of weeks, courtesy of Uncle Sam's rebate, and I am wondering what you would add to it.

So far I plan on picking up a Boyd's stock because I am not a fan of polymer / plastic on hunting rifles.

A sling for the woods and a stock-bag are also on the list. On the fence about a bipod since I usually hunt with sticks.

I plan on keeping the Weaver Kaspa since most shots I take are sub 300 yards and that should be fine.

Any suggestions on brands and so forth would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think you really need anything else. Why pay for a bi-pod if you already use shooting sticks? Save the money and buy more ammo and get more practice. I like a light crisp trigger so I replaced mine and would recommend doing so but that is just me. I know a lot of guys who think it is a waste of money to replace the trigger on a hunting rifle.

I have the Axis XP, and as the XP II has the AccuTrigger, you probably wont need to replace it, just adjust to your liking. From the sound of it, you have pretty much covered everything. The only thing I could add, as I am new to hunting, myself would be to add a Limbsaver recoil pad, if recoil is an issue for you.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
