Actually considered selling my new FNS-9...

It's true. Had it up on gunbroker for a few days. . . . . . but later took it back off.

Reason? Well, I feel like I have too many 9mm pistols as it is [have one in layaway] and am really wanting the new CZ P-09 [when it gets to my local gun shop], so decided that I should sell the FNS-9 to help pay for it. I keep thinking, . . . "I REALLY need to start saving up money for a car down payment". . . . but then something else [gun] comes along and peaks my interest. My 1997 Hyundai isn't going to last forever, after all.

Also, I've been thinking that I like [prefer, even] the hammer type pistols over striker fire. A lot of it had to do with the tendency of this FNS-9 to slightly "jerk" to the right when dry firing. My hammer pistols don't do this. I can hold straight on with them. However, after viewing the post about where to clean and oil the FNS-9, I have gotten it to where it is a lot better. Not much "jerking" now, but after the takeup, . . . I'm able to slowly squeeze the trigger until it releases the striker.

Anyway, . . . another factor is that, upon searching for other FNS-9 pistols [on gunbroker], I saw SEVERAL dozen auctions, many of them NIB, some close to where I wouldn't go less for mine, . . . and most of them had NO bidders. Only ones that did were ones that started of very low [but had a reserve]. So, after working on the trigger more, I decided that it would be more advantageous to keep it and have fun with it.

Put it back up on a selling site again. Very nice pistol, but I'm gonna stick with pistols with hammers. My loss will be someone else's gain. It may take a while, but I'll eventually find a buyer.

I would say you're positively correct when you say your '97 Hyundai won't last forever! I too use to drive my cars until the wheels fell off (and no, I'm not exagerating at all with that statement). Since guns were such a lesser expense, and I had a very reliable car which had great gas mileage, for awhile there I spent my extra cash on guns, ammo, and accessories. Eventually I had to get a new car but I was able to put enough money aside for the down payment so I was in good shape financially with the monthly payment.

Getting back to your FNS-9: I have seen the new CZ P-09 in action in several online videos and it looks quite interesting. Recently I put two of my guns up for sale, one of them a 9mm. I have quite a few in that caliber already and it was time to thin the herd a bit, as I wasn't really using that particular one all that much. Here's hoping your FNS-9 auction goes well and you're able to get a new P-09 and still have some money left over for a new car.

Thanks! I hope so, too. The CZ P-09 is on order, currently.

But yeah, right now, I'm trying to get things I actually need squared away so I can start the task of saving up a down payment . . . then eventually suffer through the 6 years of monthly payments. The good thing will be having a new car that will last me a good long time [Honda Civic]. But, in the mean time, I will try to keep limping my old Hyundai along while I can.

But yeah, after the P-09 comes in, I will really start saving up the money. Of course, I DO have another expense [eventually] whenever my gunsmith gets my old Marlin 39a reblued. And I need to pick up another Stack-On gun locker, but hopefully that will be the end of spending.

BTW, my FNS-9 is the stainless w/ night sights model. I also have up for auction an old F.I. Industries Model D 380acp pistol that I really don't need anymore. That one I'm less wanting to sell, only because it is relatively rare, but just don't need it and will be getting out of 380acp altogether.

Sounds like its a good idea to sell it (and possible even reconsider your P-07 purchase, but you know your finances better than us).

Guns past the first few are mostly luxury items. If you've got enough to handle your needs and your money needs to be put elsewhere, then do that for now. Once the necessities are taken care of there will be money there later to buy guns.

I will say though that when it comes to cars - you can do a lot of repairs for the price of a car payment . My car is a 2006 (also a Hyundai - they're more dependable than people give them credit for) but I plan on driving it until it won't drive no more .

I got the FNS-9 because I needed an "under the pillow" gun for my residence. The P-09 will take the place of the FNS-9. My other pistols are not well suited for that role.

But yeah, I feel like squeeking out as many miles on my car as I can, . . . but there is that wonder . . . if you put a grand out to fix the car, . . . there is the probability of something else failing. Or, you put out that money and some idiot smashes your car that the insurance will only give you the ~$400 market value it is booked at.

I may have to just fix a few things on it to keep it going longer. Needs front axles. Both CV Joints are clacking around corners. Needs some ball joints. The Cold Air Sensor keeps the "Check Engine" light on, but is a pretty expensive repair . . . for what the part is.

But yeah, . . . it is far cheaper to keep the older car running. For sure!

I know what you mean about certain guns filling a particular role. I wanted a HD gun for my bedside location (under the pillow, so to speak), and it had to be a high capacity 9mm. with night sights and a rail for mounting a laser/light module on it. At the time I didn't have anything that met all the criteria that I wanted. I was looking at the usual polymer guns at the LGS when my buddy who worked there showed me a LNIB SIG P-229E2 with a couple of spare mags that was priced at way less than new. So I picked it up and a short time later got a SIG STL-900L laser/light for it. Great price, great timing, and it filled a niche that I had.

As for your Hyundai, keep in mind that as long as you can keep it running safely (as in nothing major falls off or stops working, like the engine, transmission, or brakes!), then it still is an asset to you. But wait too long and have to repair or replace any major component and now it's a liability and not worth putting the money into.

My advice would be to try to balance and budget your time and money accordingly between guns you already have (along with guns you would like to buy), with that of a new car that you will eventually need for daily transportation. Best of luck to you in all your endeavors.

Thanks bannock [and others]. My local Hyundai dealer service guy [someone I've known for a long time] basically told me that the axles can go for quite a while after the boots fail and it starts knocking, which is where I've been for a while now. Just driving it and not taking it on any out of town trips. And I'll probably keep doing the same thing. As it is, the engine and transmission have been running well enough and have given no indications of any near future failure, so as long as anything major doesn't happen, I'll keep going with it and saving up a larger down payment.

One of the things I really like about the new P-09 is the large capacity of the magazines. I'm going to try to get one with night sights, but may just go with a tac light. If my FNS-9 sells, until the P-09 comes in, I'll temporarily use my Hi Power for the role, but I would rather have a DA/SA for the role.

I do. A modified CZ SP-01 [competition hammer and SAO trigger @ ~2.5 lbs]. I'm wanting to get LPA sights put on it, but that will have to happen later on down the road.
