I bought some Speer Lawman 45 ACP Ammo 230gr TMJ Clean-Fire (53885) today and was shocked to see it is manufactured with small primers. I have been breaking in my newest Kahr, a CW45, and have been collecting 45 brass for future reloading. I bought 4 boxes of 45 ACP Ammo 200gr TMJ Speer Lawman (53655) last week, and it is larger primer. I have shied way from Blazer Brass because of the small primer brass, trying to stay with one primer size. I have all my brass separated, and kept the Blazer brass just "in case". Now I have more of what I didn't want, small primer 45 brass.

Is Speer small primer 45ACP old news, or is this the first of their switch to SP?

I hate to say it but the time has come to start saving them as eventually that's what everyone will be using.

I recently heard through the ammunition industry grapevine that federal/CCI/Speer will all he small primer sooner than later. It's where things are going. Any that you throw away now you will regret later.

I think some Speer has had them for a while now. I load only SPP in 45ACP now. It is nice having to only stock one size pistol primer and not have to bother changing the primer bar on my Dillon. Now if I could do the same with rifle primers, life would be good.

Keep the SPP cases and trade them for LPP .45acp cases.
I feel your pain--I have no use for the SPP cases, and give them away.

.45acp SPP cases doesn't help me consolidate--I also load .41Mag, .45LC and 10mm (all LPP). Probably 90% of my handgun loads are LPP.

Speer SP .45 is far from new. I suspect all .45 factory ammo will eventually be converted over to SP...so even if you hate it, you should start saving it just like LP brass, but separately. Eventually, your LP brass will wear out / get lost, and you'll be loading SP .45.

Too many LPP cases in my inventory to give up on that configuration. I'm not a fan of SPP cases, since my setup for .45ACP on my Dillon 550 generally gets setup after I've loaded 10mm, which is also LPP.

I save the SPP cases for trades, or for lost brass matches. No love lost if I can't recover them.
