I have some Diamondhead flip-up iron sights on my DDM4 (I bought those based on a recommendation from someone on here, and he gave good advice), and I've been thinking about adding an Aimpoint based on some research and recommendations. I have two questions:

1. I know people here have experience with them. Would you buy one again? (I think this is a really good way of assessing what people think of a product, but I'm just looking for general feedback here.)

2. What are the differences, practically speaking, between the T-2, H-2, and the PRO? (Especially the first two.)

Many thanks for any feedback.

The T2 has NV settings, while the H2 does not (the T2 and H2 have slightly better glass than the older T1/H1 reddots). Unless you seriously intend to use the NV settings, the extra expense of the T2 is wasted money. The T1/T2 also have slight better water submersion and temperature ratings over the H1/H2. The PRO is a LOT bigger and heavier that the T2/H2 but still a great reddot. All Aimpoints are quality...and in my opinion, worth the money.

NV is pretty cool, but it's not something I am going to use. Thanks for the information.

I had an Aimpoint on my M4 in Iraq (Comp M2 IIRC) and use a PRO on my AR now. I'd put an Aimpoint on any AR I ever buy unless I want to use magnification. They're bomb proof and the battery life is measured in years. Doesn't really get much better to me. The dot on the PRO isn't as sharp as on the optic I had in Iraq, but I can still ring steel at 100m all day with it.

...and since it will be sitting on top of a DDM4, anything other than an Aimpoint (or Trijicon) just won't do. That's just my opinion though. :)

I have a comp m2 on my ddm4v9lw and love it! I'm thinking about getting a NV device to mount in front of it to use for pigs and pests. I'd buy another in a minute for a bang bang setup!

How do the red-dot sights compare to, say, a 1.5–4x scope?
At the risk of sounding like a smartass, the red dots are 1x, no magnification. They'd be faster to target than the scope when it's on 4x, probably same speed when the scope is on 1.5 or whatever

Aimpoint makes quality stuff without a doubt. However, I'd encourage you to look through and handle the micro optics (H2,T2) prior to buying. For me, the 20 mm tube is a bit small for my preference. The 30 mm optic size (PRO, Comp m4, m3, m2) is a bit more comfortable for me. Thus, I went with the PRO.

Assuming they all work for you, there's really not a bad choice to be had here.

Good luck, OP.

That's the rub...the T2/H2 (1x) vs the 1.5-4x variable debate is a personal struggle for me as well. I have the H2 on my 16" middy right now but there are a LOT of times that I secretly wish I had a 4x variable up on my rifle.

But right now I am far more interested in keeping my rifle as lightweight as possible and do not see a need for the 4x power...yet. That could change overnight for me. For now, the 2moa reddot of the H2 makes hitting steel at 0-200 yards easy enough. Where I live, I do not expect to ever engage anything out beyond 200.

Also consider their new ACO. Size wise, it's between the Micro H & T models and the PRO, sells for about $450.

I have a CompM2 on my LMT.

I had a similar issue. For me, it was the way I was using it. I had it mounted about midway on the upper receiver and was more looking through it than letting it be a part of my view, if that makes any sense. Moving it to the front of the receiver and a little time using it fixed the problem I was having.

This. Both eyes open.

The PRO is certainly bigger than the others you listed, but top notch quality, perfectly cowitnesses with flip up sights, and can still see the red dot with the lens covers down (rear cover is transparent, front is opaque). In theory this allows you to shoot accurately despite the closed front lens cover if the SHTF in a hurry.

I have the PRO on my DDM4V3 and love it. That said, I did not cafe for the PRO mount; even torqued to spec I could move it in its slot. I replaced it with an American Defense QD mount, and it is rock solid. Not cheap though, eniugh to where the T2 would get a hard look if I were doing it again.

The difference between the T1/T2 and the H1/H2 is the lens coating. The T series had a special coating to keep the red dot from burning NV screens at the low settings.

Aimpoints are not 1x optics any more than a simple pane of glass is a 1x optic. It's a 0x optic.

Absolutely, yes- I'd buy more Aimpoints. Without hesitation.

The choice between an Aimpoint and an LPV isn't a matter of which is better, but which is better for the intended job. Once the shooter focuses on what the intended job is, choosing which sight to use becomes clearer

Well, the deal for the T2 went bad. I'm thinking of looking at a low-power scope as well. Any thoughts?

Depends on what you want it to do best. If light weight, fast on target and robust are at the top of the list, Aimpoint micro. I got what I believe was a decent deal not too long ago at larue for a H2 with mount for a hair over $700 shipped.

Never heard of a 0x optic before
Remember the "x" invokes multiplication

Well, I'm not going to lie: I don't have a highly specific purpose. I shoot a lot of paper. I am eventually going to take a carbine class at a local range. While that seems to suggest a red dot, I did see a Leupold 1.5-4x scope the other day that was quite compact.
