I have an AK that dents brass pretty good upon ejection. Are there any pointers on tuning the extractor so it ejects without beating up the brass so badly? What about the ejector? Might it need to be shortened just a bit? I have no experience with gunsmithing AK's, and this one has been totally reliable (did I mention it's an AK!).

Thanks!

Not denting brass was not on Mikhail Kalashnikov's short list when he designed the AK.

They were designed first & foremost as full-auto assult rifles. Or machineguns, if you will.

As such, they have a very powerful & violent extraction / ejection system in order to always clear the empty under any and all combat conditions.
But they do tend to be rough on brass.

I doubt there is a whole lot you can do about it without compromising the legendary AK-47 reliability.

On the AK the most common causes of brass damage are the ejected case striking the dust cover or being hit the the charging handle. I've seen people use various materials to protect the brass from these items to varying success.

But then again, you could just shoot steel cased ammuntion and not worry about it.

If you have clearence, try rubber automotive window gasket on your top cover around the ejection port. You can also get a Valmet rubber bumper for about $50.

It's an AK thing. My Galil does the same thing. Does this look familiar?
