A new friend from CA just moved to northern NV and was looking to sell his mitchell arms AK (Hungarian made) I was going to trade my Glock 22, with night sights, holster and 4 or 5 mags (nice Bianchi retention holster too) He said it was a pre ban AK that he paid "over a thousand for" and wasn't sure that we had a good trade, I thought it was a fair trade my self as with the holster and mags came close to 7 or 8 and aren't AK's going for around 4 hundred now?

Also I pulled the AK forward while keeping my finger stiff on the trigger resulting in a near machine gun burst of 10 or more rounds...whats it called when you do this?
is it bad for the gun?

thanks!!!

AK prices are based on their condition, the country of origin, and the accessoried with it. A Russian one would be expensive, while a Romaniam one would be $3-400. I've seen Hungarian SA-85's for sale for $550-650, but one marked "pre-ban" was selling for over $1,000, with no accessories. If it's worth it to you to pay more, then do so, as he is a friend and you should pay him at least what he paid, provided the gun is still in as good condition.

And it's called bump-firing.

I think this should go in the Rifles forum, but to answer your question, that sounds like one of the following:

1: accidental bumpfire, and yeah, it might be bad for the weapon. goggle "bumpfire" to find arguments for and against.
2: slamfire, something is wrong with the firing pin, I think, maybe just need to be cleaned?
3: your buddy has am FA AK, avoid it like the plaugue.

Oh, and no stock AK is worth $1k, at least no Hungarian. Only high end types like Krebs guns are worth that, and that has been modded a lot. Your buddy might very well have paid that for it, specially out here in the PRK, but it ain't worth that in the free states.

Have him drug tested since he still thinks he's in California.

Non-collectable AKs sell for a low of $400 to a high of ~$1,200. Your new buddy's gun is nothing special outside of California since pre-ban has no added value outside of the import banned Chinese AKs. It is probably worth little more than $~600-$700 in the 'real' world unless it's an underfolder version (which would make it a collectable AK).

Sign up at gunbroker and search the completed auctions for Hungarian AKs and you'll find prices of sold guns ranging from $500 to $1,200 (FEG pre-ban underfolder).

If you're looking for a shooting AK for plinking save your money and get a $500 gun.

it has a metal underfolder stock

That makes it collectable? I didn't like the stock myself as it was cold outside and metal just feels colder to touch (for me anyway).
Also it did jam once, something I'm not used to as I allways shoot glocks.:neener:
I want to get a fun plinker as well as a serious EBR so the fun plinker should shoot 762 x 39 for price and I am thinking of a DSA .308 tactical carbine for serious teotwawki & regular self defense in northern NV

Have you ever fired a non-folding AK? I find that the folding stocks are generally more comfortable.

If you ust want a reliable shooter, I'd go for an SKS. Yugoslavian ones you can get for $160-$250, depending geographically. They're accurate, and I shoot Wolf 2.5 cents per round crap from it and have never had it jam.

Here are some Hungarian AK auctions, including an underfolder
