Turned it on tonight and there is a case with some kids being shot. They find the gunstore and inverstigate, and, big surprise, the gun store owner is also the leader of RAW - a neo-nazi white power group. The guy had some fat skinhead shoot the kids (I don't know why, there are still 20 minutes left of the show).

The message is clear: gun owners are belligerent racists and walking time-bombs. I usually don't get upset or annoyed with this kind of thing, but I do resent the association of firearm owners with racists and criminals.

Also: notice I didn't say, "I just happened to see...". I'll admit this show is a guilty pleasure for me. I don't know why, it's pretty stupid, but I still watch it sometime on USA when no one is around (tonights episode is one NBC).

Just wanted to let you guys know that we are all bigots, assho|es and potential killers of children.

PS - We're all MURDERER'S as well! Just saw the end and found out that all gun owners shoot people in court, including the judge and cops.

yeah, not surprised

I saw another SVU episode that was basically agitprop against the "Evil NRA/Gun Lobby that causes all the NYC crime."

Richard Belzer(?) (Ice-T's partner) is a big Brady Campaign supporter. He headlined one of their fundraisers in DC last year or the year before . . .

Yeah, I watched too. I like how the bad guy bought the gun in Staten Island and was able to use the, get this, loophole. Since he was buying a long gun he didn't need a backround check - too funny. Also, when they go to the nazi gunstore (in NYC don't forget) there are guns displayed on the wall including short pistol gripped shotguns, ARs and AKs - I am no expert on NYC law but I didn't think those types of evil guns were available.

well if there werent illegal guns in the gun store he wouldnt be the Evil arse-hole there making him out to be....... remember, pistol grips are the work of satan himself and L.A. Gangs settle there differances with large scale bayonet charges!:what:

Did you ever wonder why they state 'facts' in the shows that bear little relevance to the show?

People believe what they see on those shows, they believe in Law and Order and CSi. They can remain skeptical watching the News, if they do, but no-one questions 'entertainment' like Law and Order.

It is propaganda, it is subtle, and it is effective.

If it were a Soviet show during the cold war it would be much less skillfully done, less subtle, and Americans would spot the propaganda in it. But domestic stuff, it's slick, professional, and people just downright enjoy it.

Imo it is indeed a guilt pleasure, it felt good, I didn't know why. I think it's because of how 1-sided the whole affair is. You get to see detectives lie and cheat. lawyers lieing and cheating, judges bearing out grudges, and it's all presented in a manner which bring you 'on board' with 'the winning team'.

I work in a datacenter where we are allowed to watch tv during long hours of running backups. My coworker watches all of this network crap every night. And yes, it is crap. I overheard the L&O SUV crap while reading, and I had to leave the room and take a break. I think 95% of the programs on network tv are garbage. The original L&O series is good. Homicide: Life on the Street was one of the best. These others though, to me, s*ck.

I admit I watch SVU on a pretty regular basis. It's on in the background during dinner and such. Usually...it is a no harm/no foul kind of show. Meaning they don't try to subtely politicize some issue in a "very special episode" kind of way.

Last night's episode was AWFUL. I counted no less than 10 subtle attempts at mind control. They have done the whole "gun shops are evil" thing several times on the show, inevitably Belzer's character gets to fit in a few miny rants about loopholes, unneeded 2A rights, militias, etc.

I like how nobody ever points out that the SVU folks do such a good job protecting the citizenry that every episode starts with some girl, kid, old lady ends up raped or dead. At least they get the part about the police arriving afterwards to clean up the mess.

Typical but I'm not going to scuff my jack boots kicking the furniture in frustration. I've got better things to do like polish my Knight's Cross for inspection tomorrow and planning an invasion of the Balkans.

That's fairly small potatos. Anyone remember the show "Nasty Boys" (ATF agents fighting crime with fast krotty chops)? One episode they had an investigation of a gun shop owner (fat, dirty, unshaven, of course) who stated that the only people that buy AR-15s are skinheads from Idaho.

Does that mean I can finally get a FW-190? Because that would be a cool plane to have. A5 revision, please.

Slight variation fo teh topic, does anyone know the politics of Donald Bellisario? He's the producer of JAG and NCIS, as well as some other shows. Reason I ask is that on JAG, several of the lead characters owned handguns. And, on one episode of NCIS, where a female pilot was being targeted by a terrorist group (or so they thought) they showed her with her privately owned Glock on two occassions during the show, both times in a home defense situation.

Just makes me wonder where Bellisario falls on the issue...

Network TV, mainstream media and anything else out of Hollywood or NYC is extremely anti-gun, and liberal on all causes. By watching them you support their causes. I haven't watched NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, etc for years. Its helped my blood pressure also.

Ive never seen skinheads at a gun show, nor have i ever seen a table full of Nazi paraphenalia. I have never heard a racist comment uttered within the confines of a gunshop.

I dont think we get to complain too loud about our public portrayal untill we take responsibility for cleaning up our own act a little bit.

So you watch it and you drive up their viewer numbers.

It's your fault they keep telling lies about us.

Stop making it profitable for them to do it, and they'll stop doing it.

I am becoming more and more decided that most TV shows are crap and not worth watching.:banghead: If it is not one reason, like trying to fill people's head with with pathetic ideas. It is for other reasons such as not being able to find anything that parents and their kids can watch together. I hate the direction that society is taking with the entertainment industry. But I have choices. I can either watch it, or turn it off. And I have been known to turn the "crap box" off on occasion.:D
Now if you will excuse me, I have to go shave my head (my husband is probably not going to like that:p ) and find my combat boots!:what:

Oh, Raven, great idea. I'll get a MkIV or maybe a Panther and invade Terre Haute (sounds French) and seize the airbase for you.:D
Sweet. I think they had an ME-109 at the last airshow at Purdue airport.
