I've been loading e3 in 9's for quite some time and thought I'd venture into 38 special. Went out to the range yesterday and here's what I got:

e3 3.5 gr via Lee Pro Auto Disk #.57 hole with Ringer's 125 gr 38 TCFP coated bullet seated/crimped (Lee FCD) on the crimp groove: with my 2" Taurus 605 Poly Protector 357 756 fps and with my Taurus 85 titanium 2" 746 fps. The same charge using Acme 158 swc coated in my 605 netted 733 fps. These also seated/crimped on the crimp groove. Ran out of bullets so I was unable to run the Acme's thru the Taurus 85.

The e3 meters well going thru the #.57 hole. I was pleased with the accuracy and there were no keyholers. The paper was punched cleanly. Both snubbies were easy to handle with recoil being acceptable.

I also have a spare disk with a modified (slightly drilled out larger) #.57 hole. This nets 3.7 gr. I didn't have enough rounds made up for a complete chrono test but with the 125 Ringer's using the 605 these netted an initial average 763 fps. I'd like to do more testing with these. Accuracy and recoil were fine.

BTW, this $1 mod will allow your Pro Auto Disk to meter with "micro adjustment" - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/working-diy-micro-auto-disk.741988/#post-9318202

Thanks for the link. I saw this awhile back and made one. Very handy and accurate. My .57 I made prior to seeing the link. Fortunately I got it right the first go around.

BTW, LiveLife formerly BDS?

During one of the powder shortages I tried e3 in the .38 Special. Grain-for-grain I found it to be slightly faster burning than Clays.

35 Whelen...That's when I jumped on board as well and loaded my 9's with e3. About a year and a half ago I got back into revolvers. This peaked my interest in e3 for 38 special. My 9's have been pretty lonely!
