I went to Wal Mart tonight, first time in 4 months. I thought that I would check out the ammo while there.
They had Winchester 45 acp ammo (white box). I was shocked by the price, $23.00 for 50 rounds.
I also noticed they were really thin on rifles. The guy there told me that the long guns are going. They will not be selling them any more. This is in central Ohio.
Oh well, I did not buy much there anyway.:D

cheap ammo in so cal

i too stopped at a walmart, in duarte, ca. and found really cheap ammo. dont think it was a sale or clearance as its been this price for awhile. anyways they had
100-wwb-9mm- $10.70
100-wwb-45-$19.97
100-wwb-40-$16.14

cheapest price than any other walmart i've been in all over california.
i did buy a case of 9mm and several boxes of .40. too bad they were out of the 45, but did get the blazer brass box of 50 for $9.97 the two guys behind the counter were friendly and helpful too. one guy even put it in cart for me and i thought it was because he was going to escort me out, he was just being helpful.

i left several cases of 9mm behind along with boxes of 40, hope some of you can take advantage.

I usally buy the Winchester 100rd value packs for around the same price as the post above, its a good deal for some plinking rounds. The value packs of 9mm and 22-250 are also a good value.

What type of WWB .45 Cal was it? That is inline with MidwayUSA prices for many of the different bullet categories except 230gr FMJ 50 round boxes.

Over 1000 of their stores are no longer going to sell firearms because they were not profitable. I rarely saw the guns get bought up when I go there. Everyone complained that they were driving out the little guys, well hopefully the local guys can refill that niche. Hopefully them pulling out won't cause a huge spike in prices across the board. The "cheap" guns will probably get more expensive (days of the $130 10/22 are probably limited) but it shouldn't effect handgun or the more premium prices. I suspect they will keep special order sales of firearms, I'll have to ask my father.

The ammo is continually bought up at Wal-Mart. If they pull out of that I forsee a huge price increase as demand decreases and manufacturers no longer have to meet Wal-Marts price point. However, given that they are always out of 9mm, 40 and 45 AND I know they are constantly restocking I believe they will stay in the ammo game as it is profitable and requires nothing more from the Federal Government than an ID check, which I am not sure is even required. It is generally pretty obvious who is under 18...go look at your senior photo from high school...you probably wonder where all your hair went, I sure do!

Johnny Blaze, glad to hear you had a good experience.

Just a note on the WWB: I've come across a few in 9mm which have undersized rims. I noticed this on failures to extract. At first I was concerned that it was my pistol but my micrometer said different.

I just found a local shop has better prices for plinking ammo then Wal Mart, which is really nice. The problem is that these rounds are loaded by the people there on a commercial press... I just don't know how much I trust it and them, I'll just have to ponder until I get my own press up and running.

Either way, my Wall Mart up here has 100 rnd WWB 9mm for $12, not great but acceptable for the amount of 9mm I shoot.

In Texas...

Here in Texas, the cost for WWB is $23 for 100 rounds, not 50. Are you sure they weren't just sitting in the wrong slot on the shelf? Or maybe you mistook the 100 round box for a 50 round box?

I use the WWB hardnose for plinking with my P90 and they work fine.

I have shot maybe 1500 rounds of the WWB 9mm from Wal-mart with no issues. Though I spend the extra $2 and get the Remington UMC 9mm now (maybe 1000 throughthe gun? My brass bucket is heavy) as it seems to group slightly better. The val pack WWB is 12.88 and buying two 50 packs of the UMC is $14.74. The 50 round WWB 9mm is $7.17.

When I was shooting a ton of .45 ACP it was right near $20 per 100, bought 1000-2000 rounds of that before I started reloading.

Never a problem with the WWB.

About what I pay at WM here in California - I think it was a mistake. WM in CA haven't sold any firearms for several years. I've heard rumours they may stop selling Ammo. Fairly or not WM gets a lot of bad press these days, I suspect the corporate heads are responding to local political attitudes. Some stores in some states, maybe different stores within a state, may carry guns and ammo or not.:(

Either the box is in the wrong place on the shelf or you're looking at WWB JHP ammo. Standard WWB .45 ball ammo sells for around $23/100.

Wedge has the same prices at his Walmart at least for the 9mm WWB 100rounds for $12.88+tax. I've never had a single problem shooting WWB. I highly doubt they will stop selling rifles/shotguns in Ocala, but they have already stopped in Orlando. As long as they have good prices on ammo I'm happy, I don't buy firearms through them.

Wally here in Albuquerk yesterday was at $23.00 a box of 100 for .45acp in JHP for Remington. It has never givin me any trouble in any of my 1911's....

I just picked up 3, 100 rd boxes of 9mm 115gr FMJ for 12.88 a Box!!! at Walmart.
FWIW the Cabellas near me had the best price on .357,
S&B 158gr FMJ 50 rds for $15.88.
I know the Blazer is cheaper but the aluminium cases are not worth a damn, and nobody near me sells Blazer Brass.

Dick's Sporting Goods in Lexington, KY usually has Remington 9mm on sell for around $5.20/50rd box. I recently bought 10 boxes and they gave me another 10% off for "buying in bulk".

I've never had an issue with WWB either, although the prices have gone up recently, which sucks... Our hobby is getting more and more expensive.

I spoke with someone who runs the gun/hunting section of a local Wal-Mart (central ohio, actually). He said that the decision to retain or eliminate firearms is being made on a case-by-case basis. He's generally unsuare if someone up in management is anti-gun, wary of the legal issues, or just keeping an eye on the bottom line. He said that some stores have phased out firearms sales, but his store was keeping theirs because they make Wal-Mart money. The other stores had weak firearms sales.

My general opinion, mostly uninformed, is that W-M thinks they can make more money using the floorspace and staff to sell things other than guns and ammo. To me that is not an anti-gun decision, per se- it is a business decision, pure and simple. That does not explain, however, why Wal-Marts out in the heart of the red states have sometimes closed their gun sections. I suspect that ultimately they want to get out of the gun biz entirely, and they've shut down the gun sections in entire regions because of this, based upon whether or not gun sales, across the entire area, were profitable enough for them.

I dunno.

The 45 acp ammo was the right price. I asked the manager that was working there. He said that he was out of the 100 packs. It was the standard white box ammo. I just thought that it was pretty high for 50 rounds. Maybe the store had the wrong price on it. Almost all of the ammo was pretty thin in numbers, alot was sold out.
They did have 40 white box ammo for $17.00 for 100 rounds, that seemed pretty reasonable.
I also noticed that they had a Ruger 10/22, cheap wood stock, blue, for 169.00. I am not sure how much these are anymore, but I thought that seemed high also. Asked if he would come down on the price since they were not going to handle them anymore, he said that they are going to send all of the firearms back to the supplier.

I have seen in southern ohio especially cincinnati the wal marts here no longer carry firearms. I asked the guy why and he said its too close to the inner city and someone might kill someone with a gun. In cincinnati the type of guns they could sell were limited since the city of Cincinnati banned all semi auto rifles. They continue to sell ammo though if you can find the guy who works at the former gun counter. I try to not buy from there because it takes sometimes 20 minutes to find someone at the ammo counter.

Depends on the 10/22 as Wal-mart carries a 10/22 RIFLE as opposed to just the carbine length and that one runs a little more expensive.

My buddy and I just went in on 5000 rounds of WWB ($11.88/100-10%=$10.69/100). There is a 10% discount if we order over 3000 rounds. I'm not sure if that is a store policy, or just a really cool manager.

I was in the closest Wal-Mart to me here in suburban CO recently -a relatively new Wal-Mart, to boot - and behind the sporting goods counter were three wood racks for rifles. All the racks were empty. I only moved recently to this part of town so I don't know if they formerly carried rifles, and they were pulled - but it was rather interesting. The other Wal-Mart up the street doesn't even have cabinets for firearms, just a free-standing counter with ammo behind it.

here in houston, tx

100 9mm/12.88

100 .40/17.xx

100 .45/22.xx
