AMMO AT WAL MART

WWB and high round count.

I've shot a lot of it, and I do mean a lot. Many thousands of rounds, in both .45ACP and .223 Rem. I've never had a problem with it.

Near me, it runs $22.50 per 100 for .45 and about $8 per 40 for .223.

wwb

I have to add my two cents: winchester whites in the fmj family are some of the best ammo in my opinion anyway, iv'e use it all the time for years never had even one squibber or ftf and everything ive used it in from bersa to kimber including ruger and smithies loved to eat them up.Those 24.00 for $50 had to be jhp.

I spoke with someone who runs the gun/hunting section of a local Wal-Mart (central ohio, actually). He said that the decision to retain or eliminate firearms is being made on a case-by-case basis. He's generally unsuare if someone up in management is anti-gun, wary of the legal issues, or just keeping an eye on the bottom line. He said that some stores have phased out firearms sales, but his store was keeping theirs because they make Wal-Mart money. The other stores had weak firearms sales.

My general opinion, mostly uninformed, is that W-M thinks they can make more money using the floorspace and staff to sell things other than guns and ammo. To me that is not an anti-gun decision, per se- it is a business decision, pure and simple. That does not explain, however, why Wal-Marts out in the heart of the red states have sometimes closed their gun sections. I suspect that ultimately they want to get out of the gun biz entirely, and they've shut down the gun sections in entire regions because of this, based upon whether or not gun sales, across the entire area, were profitable enough for them.

You are correct, it was strictly a financial decision.

My local Wal-Mart still stocks and sells rifles.

IMHO WWB ammo has never let me down and I have put thousands of it through various pistols in the past two years. I also shoot Blazer Brass, Magtech, PMC, American Eagle, UMC, etc. whatever I can get a good deal on. So far all are about the same quality, all had 100% fire with no failures, and all made the same .360" hole in the target pretty much where I wanted it to hit. As for dirty, well, shoot some foriegn surplus ammo if you want to see DIRTY. WWB, Magtech, Blazer Brass, Eagle, etc. all about the same relatively clean.

Oddly, the .40S&W 100-pack WWB comes in two 50-rd trays, but the 9mm comes in a big box with 100-rds dumped in it loosely. Wonder why. Anyway, I repack my WWB 9mm in the leftover 50-rd boxes from ammo I shot at the range.

Shhhhh... Don't tell Winchester... but out of the last 12 boxes of WWB I bought at Wal*Mart, 10 of them had 101 rounds in them!

I've noticed that too! Three out of four boxes had 101. I love those "Buy 100, get one free" promotions.:D

SOUTH FLORIDA WALMART AMMO PRICES

HA!!!
I just went to Wally yesterday, picked up .40S&W 100 rounds box for 17.99 a box WWB, and Remongton JHP 230 gr .45ACP for 29.95 for a box of 100.

UMC's have been in my experience horrifically dirty ammunition compared to wwb.
I've fired 10's of thousands of rounds of WWB in .38spc, 9mm and some in .40cal - the only problem i've ever had with it was a .40cal round with a dud primer. Amusingly, it happened in the very first box of .40 for my new Beretta 96. I was a bit shocked, honestly - click! waited. Waited. Waited. click click click. Waited. Waited. rack slide, retrieve round. Re-chamber. click. wait wait wait. Oh well, i guess that's a dead primer.

Yongxingfreesty:
I have used both the magtech and wwb (alot more of the wwb). I like both and do not see a whole lot of difference in them. I buy the wwb because it is easy to find and usually a little better price.

Ammo is and will go up more. Bullets have gone up late 06 (last few days) at Cabelas.

Lead shot delivered to out trap club next week will be $24.50/25#. Was $18 in July.

Went into the local gun shop a couple days ago with my shiny new paycheck looking to get tons of ammo. Left with shoot-'n-c's and that's all. Only .38spc they had was round nose lead remington for 17.80$ a box of 50 (!), only 9mm they had was blaser brass @ 16$/box of 50...etc. etc.
Wal-mart's prices are still reasonable ;)

i too stopped at a walmart, in duarte, ca. and found really cheap ammo. dont think it was a sale or clearance as its been this price for awhile. anyways they had
100-wwb-9mm- $10.70
100-wwb-45-$19.97
100-wwb-40-$16.14

Ditto. Same store, same ammo (.45).

I went to buy 45's at walmart a month ago at the Duarte store they were $22. I even asked the heavy set older guy that usually works in the sporting goods about this thread and he said no, no change still the same price. I guess I better run over there before you guys eat them up :p

Buddy of mine picked WWB in 380 the other day to meet me at the range. Paid over $12 for a 50/pack. Seems really expensive to me. Out of the two boxes 2 rounds misfired. Could see the impression on the primer, but no bang.

Shot a variety of CCi Blazer, Blazer Brass, and WWB. WWB was the only one giving us problems. Oh well.

$12/50 is not unusual for .380, it is always a bit more $$ than 9mm. The bargain at WalMart on .380 is the 100 round box of WWB for $20.88

I've never had a failure to feed, fire, extract or eject with WWB .380 or 9mm. I shoot WWB .380 in my eighty nine year old Remington Model 51 pistol with no problems.

What was your buddy shooting?

Well, I've bought Blazer Brass for $9.99 at Gander Mountain, so thought Wally would be cheaper. We were shooting a Sigma 380, but had no problems with any other rounds. Maybe it was just a bad box.

I just paid $23.58 (what is with wally world and thier oddball pricing? That was the pre-tax price.) for a 100-pack of WWB in .38 Special.

I could have sworn the wally world 10 minutes up the road had it for $21.xx or $22.xx a few days ago. It doesn't really surprise me, though. They often don't even stock the same items. What did bother me is the employee who could have cared less about helping me. I asked her for the Winchester .38 Special ammo, and she immediately replied, "We're out." Then I asked her if they had ANY .38 special, and she said, "Nope. I'm pretty sure we're all out." Then she actually looked down and said, "Oh I guess we do." I asked her if it was the 130 gr. FMJ round, and she replied, "No, it's .38 Special." Ugh. Then as she rung me up (It was indeed the WWB I asked for in the first place) she started saying how she hated guns. I asked her why she worked in the sporting goods section and she said it was all they had open when she applied. But then she said she'd been working in the department for a year, and it has made her hate guns even more. So appearantly, you aren't allowed to switch departments or anything at Wal-Mart. LOL Sorry, I'm done ranting. I just hate bad customer service, having done it for four and a half years myself. Thank God that's over.

.45 price even lower

i stopped by the walmart in duarte,ca. again and bought .45 wwb/100 pack for $19.12. they had plenty of 9mm and .40, not so much now of .45.

Case by case

The decision to sell guns and/or ammo is purely case by case. No entire regions have been "turned off." I have heard nothing - not even hint or rumor - that WM intends to get out of the gun/ammo business completely.

Someone mentioned it - sales per square foot.

Prices up in Nothern NM

Thursday we paid 22.97 for 100 Winchester 45 ACP FMJ (the white box) at Wal-Mart. Today we paid 26.97 for the same stuff -
We like the ammo a lot but that's quite a jump...

I shopped today for WinClean and CCI aluminum case at the Central Park Walmart Super Center in Fredericksburg, VA. Prices have gone up. This store only had .357 magnum in WinClean and no CCI aluminum case. I settled for a little of this and that. Here is what I paid: Winchester .38 spl. 130 gr. target/range 100-rd value pack - $23.58, CCI Blazer Brass 230 gr. FMJ 50-rd box - $10.97, Federal .22 LR AutoMatch 325-rd box - $11.57, Winchester WB .357 SIG 50-rd box - $18.12. I asked about buying in bulk CCI aluminum case and WinClean in he calibers I need. The clerk gave me the number of the sporting goods manager to call on Monday. I'll see what happens next week.

The Wal-Marts in Birmingham have recently stopped selling long guns, I don't know about ammo. The WM Supercenter here in Oneonta still sell firearms but the rumor is, that will end soon. Just as well, they don't sell that many any way(it's a quality thing).

I would suggest stocking up on ammo as much as possible, because metal prices are sure not going to drop. I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen more increases. Heck, your money is better spent on ammo than sitting in the bank account, when you consider inflation and rising ammo costs.
