Hello everyone. I finally got my Beretta CX4 carbine in .40. I have been drooling over these for a while. I have just had one chance to shoot a couple mags so far, I 'll give a full range report when I get out with it this weekend.
I got a good deal i think, it was the LE package that comes with the nice cleaning kit and hard case. It is the 96 model (uses model 96 pistol mags) and came with 2 11 rnd mags. It was $539 NEW!!! Couldnt pass it up.
It shoots real nice so far, enough kick to be fun, but almost no muzzle rise so real easy to keep on target. It BEGS for a red dot sight!!! Its kind of wierd that it doesnt come with the top rail. I have one on order so I can put my c-more on it. I also ordered some 20rnd usa mags and some 15rnd mecgar mags, we'll see how they do. I'll get some pics up this weekend.

Ok- question:
What ammo? I shoot 165 gr golden sabers in my pistols, but I am thinking of using 155 gr silvertips for more velocity in the carbine. But I am also think that maybe the 180gr loads generate enough velocity in a carbine to be a good choice too. Any thoughts? Anyone have any data on .40 carbine performance?
Thanks

that is a pretty good price, congrats on the new carbine. i would pay that for one, my dad has one and i love it. they seem to be getting more and more expensive all the time. they are fun to shoot and there are many options avaliable for em, mags are pretty cheap like the 96 and 92 mags. i love how they are totally ambi and cheap to shoot to, especially the 9mm models.

Anxious to hear your report. I am guessing you got it at Bud's. That does seem like a fine price and has me interested.

Already own one in exactly the same caliber. Before you even mount optics on it I would highly recommend a barrel shroud. The .40 S&W is a very lethal but hot round. Have a friend watch it shoot and you will see what I mean with the flame aspect. The barrel would start to smoke after about 50 rounds. I tend to shoot about 100 rounds on a range trip and the barrel shroud makes it so the barrel remains nice and cool; which in means less ware and easier clean up.

I use and prefer 180 grain rounds when it comes to target shooting because it means less recoil and in my expereince more accuracy. 180 grain FMJ cycles perfectly in terms of reliability. I favor the remington ones with the slightly rounded wad cutter style fronts. I mostly shoot factory reloads and it still is an incredibly accurate carbine. The secret to the low recoil is the massive recoil spring in the stock. Also dont forget to clean the entire action not just the barrel otherwise after about 700-800 rounds it will start to jam if you dont clean the action.

Did I mention in addition to reducing muzzle jerk the barrel shroud looks sexy?
