Ammunition choices for CC

Two scenarios with how many combinations of fmj vs jhp... and what algorithm are you going to use to determine the probabilities of needing which one first? Are you going to stagger every other round, every 3rd round, split it 50/50? How do you qualify the diminished return potential? Once you answer those questions, I have about 4 more. This is what I mean by impractical and that's a conservative description.

I mentioned the first 3 to 5 rounds being hollow points and the remainder being FP or something capable of better penetration. That's two scenarios, one type of round for each. Let's not create scenarios such as staggering every other round that I never mentioned. If someone else mentioned doing so, maybe they can answer those questions.

I knew using two different types of ammunition had the potential to complicate things legally, but wasn't aware mixing ammunition was common among criminals.

In regards to levels of penetration, I'm a fan of HST's and they're in my nighstand gun, a FNX 45. As good as they are, they won't penentrate a barrier as well as a hard cast FP bullet.
I think the criminals mixing ammo thing is just circumstances for some of them. They might have a few odd rounds of this or that and that is what goes in the mag.

My questions were rhetorical .. I was simply attempting to introduce some sarcasm to highlight how impractical I think it is to mix ammo.

Here is a very simple proposition.. think of 10 people ( any 10 )who you personally consider to be the leading experts in armed self defense. Take a moment and find out what they carry in regards to EDC ammo and their thought on ammo in general. If [any] of those leading expert which you have selected as part of your top 10 list actually mix their carry ammo.... please list their name in this thread.

When I was a LEO in the Chicago area, I knew of many other LEO's who did this. I talked to one the other day, triggering this question. You'll notice I didn't state this should be done. I asked the question as I was looking for input. I'll take a step back from this now as other members answered my question.

I decided against mixing SD ammo for several reasons. Concerns about point of impact, feeding reliability, liability concerns, and distractions during a stressful situation.
IMHO reliability then penetration dictate ammo choice, expansion is third.
Determine which ammo is 100% reliable, penetrates 12-18 inches, practice with it until you are comfortable, and don't over think it. Most SD shootings are short range, 1-2 shots and done.

TomJ asked:
The thinking is that after the first few rounds are fired your attacker/attackers will have taken cover and they want something that can penetrate that cover. Thoughts on this?

The people recommending this sort of thing clearly have a much clearer crystal ball than do I as they are able to predict the exact circumstances that you (and everyone else to whom they are selling the same package) will need to use your gun for self-defense. This is, of course, wrong.

Kids, let's play Mister Rogers! "Can you say confidence trickster?" Well, neighbor, let's learn a new word, "Can you say charlatan?" Or perhaps we could be more charitable and simply refer to these neighbors using the the words "Simpletons" or "Fools".
