BrownBear, if you can tote the thing through the boonies at port arms at a fast trot, why not?

ajacobs, you're cool with me. And a fervent thanks for doing Hunter Safety. Important and thankless job. sm, you must be a twin I never knew about.
Seger rules....

P95, I'm repeating myself, but anything that aids in directing that cloud of shot to the target comfortably isn't Cool Stuff. As long as the addons are adjuncts to good form and aid effectiveness, this curmudgeon cavils not.

The mods and addons I've done have been things like better triggers, better sights on the slug shooters. better fit, better pads, and sling studs. Oh yes, a couple longer forcing cones.

Where my discretionary income has gone is into ammo. Due to kvetching from the Permanent Head of the Budget Committee here, I'm tapering down to 500 rounds month for the interim. Good news, Daughter will FINALLY graduate next June, Son is up for a full scholarship and it looks like the Gummint will pay the tab. Soon as things improve, it's a MEC progressive and flats of wads, shot and primers by the case, huzzah!

Since 1986.

Heck if I know... 10k? 15k? Lots and lots, but mostly low-brass, cheapo birdshot.

Not a lot. My shotgunning really tapered off after I got into pistols. If it's been more than a few hundred rounds a year in the last five years, I'd be shocked.

How many have I owned? Maybe ten or eleven, but never more than two at a time. Probably five 500's, a couple '97s, an 870, a PGO eight-shot Squires Bingham, and a Marlin-Glenfield Goose Gun, that I can remember off the top of my head. I usually own plenty of pistols and rifles, and one shotgun propped in a corner of the bedroom. Incidentally, other than the Goose Gun, I've never owned a shotgun that didn't have a cylinder bore barrel on it. :uhoh:

My first post!

I've been shotgunning for under a month. Fired my first shotgun round ever on 13 December 2003.

Lifetime total is exactly 376 rounds: 15 rounds of trap, one spare shell. I'm averaging about four boxes of shells per trap session, which is probably one too many -- I seem to lose focus around the third or fourth round of each session, and my scores go down.

I don't currently own any shotguns; I've been using club guns for trap shooting. I do have an H&R Topper Deluxe on order, though...

Welcome to THR!

Well sounds like you have the shotgun "bug", there is no cure, just accept it and go forth. In case you haven't poked around at the top "floated" are some great links and "101" threads.

If you have a need or a question...holler! Have something to say...post it!

Observation: you are finding the right gun that fits you buy using the rental guns first...this is smart and suggested before you buy a personal shotgun.

It surprises people how much stamina required to shoot 4 boxes ( 100 rds) , about the 3-4 box it is not uncommon to "lose focus" actually you are just getting acclimated to the whole thing. Only thing to do, is to do some mounting and practicing good fundamentals of stance and mounting of gun to face. Just takes doing it...you are well on your way.

Welcome, Fish. A lot of fun awaits, enjoy.

Maybe we can meet sometime at PGC, you're just down the road...

I'd like that, Dave. I've really enjoyed looking through the archives of this site and TFL, and it'd be nice to meet up with someone who actually knows what they're doing...

I might be out of town on the 11th, but we should definitely meet up at some point.
