I"ve been pondering adding a Blackout upper to one of my ARs for a while now, but all of them seem overpriced and short-barreled. I was looking for a simple carbine length (and gassed) replacement upper.

Brownell's has one on sale for $199.99 delivered, this is an 'Anderson AR-15 Upper Receiver Assembly 300 AAC No BCG or charging handle.' 16" M4 1-7 barrel, A2 Handguard and flash hider.

Does anyone know anything about these?? Good / bad / indifferent?

I'll probably order based on price and the Brownell's guarantee, which is unmatched.

Also, what is a good quality inexpensive BCG and handle? That means I don't care about 'mil-spec' manufactuiring or testing, but I would prefer well made, reliable, parts. This is a fun/plinking rifle.

Thanks,

Ive never used an anderson upper, but ive used 4 of their lowers for my own builds and builds ive helped with for friends, all have been good.

I think brownells also offers and 89-100 dollar bcg, and i just buy the cheap 15 dollar charging handles.

Do you reload? For .300 BLK, I prefer shorter pistol length gas tube over carbine length for more reliable cycling with different loads/powders, especially subsonic loads. If you shoot all supersonic loads, carbine length gas tube is fine.

I use Yankee Hill upper with pistol length gas tube and happy user of Anderson lowers.

At comparable price to Anderson upper, how about PSA pistol length gas tube 16" free-float M-Lok hand guard upper without bolt/charging handle for $269 and free shipping? - http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-pistol-length-300-aac-bo-1-8-nitride-13-5-m-lok-fre.html

And $349 for upper with bolt/charging handle and free shipping - http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-...e-13-5-m-lok-upper-with-bcg-ch-516445198.html

Thanks, guys.

Found the BCG & Handle for $99 total on Brownells and ordered everything - so I'll have a complete 300 upper for (just) less than $300.

Exactly what I was hoping to do.

We'll see about quality, fit, finish, and so on. I'm curious and I'll let everyone know how it goes.

However, Brownell,s is so good about standing their guarantee I'm not worried.

Also meant to add that I don't anticipate using subsonic ammo except maybe just for a fun test.

I do reload but subsonic to me makes real sense only with a suppressor w/short barrel, which I don't have - I want nothing to do with NFA / ATF registered stuff, so 16" is fine. I am curious to see how complete sub $300 upper is & does.

Should be fine, the two 300aac uppers ive built were cheap cobbled together builds using carbine length gas systems and run on my lower optimized for my .458. They both ran and shot well with supers.
The second one i built i used a right side charging upper so when i ran it with subs i just reached up cycled it manually. 5grn of 231 behind a 245mbc coated is surprisingly quiet, deeper sound but about as loud as a .22, never chrono'd them tho.
