Another .45 Colt

This time it is a nice S&W 25-5 with a 6 inch barrel. I bought it from the same lady I bought the Hawes from last weekend. The chamber throat diameters seem pretty good, about .451-.452. Should be a good shooter.

I had a couple like that. Both were tack drivers. Mine always liked Remington swaged lead 255 grain bullets. Never measured a chamber, just tried different ammo until I found what they liked best. Then tailored my handloads until they matched.

I wouldn't worry too much about the chamber throats. Just load it and go. That long barrel will make up for whatever inconsistencies the throats make. What's the SN on that bad boy, maybe we can date it for you. My guess is 1978-1982. Here's my 4" nickel M25-5 from 1980. Throats are .453, and it shoots as accurately as any other S&W I own. I have two other .45 Colt guns, a Henry Big Boy rifle and a Uberti SAA.

That is one handsome revolver. I do not normally care for nickel plated guns, but that one is definitely the exception. Very nice. 😍

When I received my last M25-5 over 35 years ago it shot poorly. I found that a .458” bullet would drop freely through the cylinder throats without being pushed. I sent it back to S&W, and within a few weeks it was returned with a new cylinder sporting .452” throats. It shot great after that.

Normally, I much prefer blued guns. My M25-5 is one of two nickel S&W's I own. The price was right and I couldn't pass up a 4" M25-5 regardless of what color it was.

Nice revolver.

I like S&W Model 25's.

Here are my Model-25-5's. I got a 25-15 (not in the picture) earlier this year so that I can compare it to the 25-5's.

The 8-3/8" Model 25-5 is the first 8-3/8" S&W revolver that I obtained. Before then, I really had no use for them but I enjoyed shooting the 45 Colt that I have been shopping for 8-3/8" S&W revolvers.
