I just read this little gem:
How about we STOP talking about "assault rifles" . . .https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/5/7/2167996/-How-about-we-STOP-talking-about-assault-rifles
STOP IT WITH THE “ASSAULT WEAPON, ASSAULT RIFLE” HORSESHIT. THESE THINGS ARE WEAPONS OF WAR and are designed for one purpose: To kill as many people as efficiently as possible in as short a time as possible.
I can assault you with a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun. What is being used to slaughter people is a WEAPON OF WAR and it’s goddam time we used that term all the time, day in, day out. Make the gunhumpers explain why they want weapons of war on the streets.
How do we get them off the streets? Outlaw them; the law should describe in detail what is prohibited and is updated every time a manufacturer figures out a way around it; pay a bounty for every one turned in — turn in an AR or AK, get $1,500 tax free; a 20- or 30-round magazine gets $100; and so on. After two years, if you are found with any prohibited firearm or accessory in your possession, it’s jail time. I know — it’ll never pass, but let an old man dream.
They are flailing blindly. And, btw, "weapons of war" are precisely what the 2nd Amendment is all about.
I do think think they realize a majority of voters are just done with gun control.
That's the purpose of the second Amendment . There is no such thing as over playing it. The problem we have is we have a large portion of people who are clueless to its meaning. We suck as citizens because we have allowed infringements on this uninfringeable freedom. The defense against tyranny is consistently OVERPLAYED by pro-gun folks using it to justify too much nonsense.
30 Rd Mag ban proposed... TYRANNY! CIVIL WAR TIME!
Money is made and notoriety is gained this way but it's terrible for our country and the debate. We all have to live in this country and abide by her laws, the table shouldn't be set up for revolution or insurrection if we can't always get our way. We've lost all perspective when we are both simultaneously living under the least restrictive gun laws in decades AND talking about overthrowing the govt.
You've all heard it, you've all seen it. Perhaps not so much on here but Jesus, the social media sites these days...
Well make sure it doesn't happen. I m a resident of TX and my Rep and Senator know I'm not going to put up with any one violating their oath of office. Are you employing the ostrich defense? 2 states with high populations just passed AWB/Mag restrictions. Heck they just introduced a AWB in the TX committee so it will hit the floor by session end.
We are only a couple votes away from the dems having full control at the national level.

Some commentators (notably Braden at Langley Outdoors) have been pointing out how fantastically well the boycott of Bud Light is working, and suggesting we need to do the same against companies who support gun bans. Be creative, find out for example if your bank refuses to bank firearms-related companies and if so, move your accont, and very important, publicize this widely so others will do likewise.
The one caveat here is, you have to make the change permanent. I saw some statistics about this that said usually after a few weeks sales go back to normal.Hurting them on their "bottom line" has frequently been effective in fostering change. Go for it !
it's a lot easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled.

My M-16 is today’s AR-15; it and the same AK-47 that was used against me in Vietnam can be purchased in damn near any gun shop or sporting goods store in the county. These things are WEAPONS OF WAR and we need to call them for what they are — not a “modern sporting rifle,” not a “man card,” not an “assault rifle” but a WEAPON OF WAR.
Mark W. Smith might help you to understand that your fears, though rational, are mostly unfounded. Are you employing the ostrich defense? 2 states with high populations just passed AWB/Mag restrictions. Heck they just introduced a AWB in the TX committee so it will hit the floor by session end.

I bought my AR specifically for home defense. My house is hardened, a run-of-the-mill burglar would go look for an easier job, but a mob like we saw in 2020 wouldn't care. It would take BGs at least 1.5 minutes to break in, but police response time here is about 5 minutes. So I need a weapon capable of dealing with multiple intruders.MSR - punching holes and ringing steel - oh, dear - please don't ban my toy that looks like a military gun.
That doesn't contribute at all. First, the guns are protected by the 2nd Amendment for their lethal intent. Oh, they are not military but empirically they can kill 10s of folks very quickly. Recall Patton said an 8 shot semi was the greatest battle instrument. So a 30 round semi is a toy? Just choir BS and useless. Finally, there are 20 millions out there. I'd bet most are not used in plinking and competiton. The number of competitors in the USA is probably in the 10s of thousands from sports figures. The guns are mostly sitting somewhere, fired rarely and bought for their lethal potential.
So lets move past that and defend their ownership for what they are. So they aren't fully auto - good point. Does it make a difference - no, just a clip vs. magazine point that is useless today.
It was way longer in L.A. also.^^^^
Deputy response time is longer here in the "boondocks" where I live so, Ditto.
The same bill has been submitted to the last 15 or 20 Legislatures. Along with bills to ban all guns in the State, outlaw hunting, and the like. It's so certain politicians can wave the things around as a reason to be re-elected (and there are some cynical types supporting those to get votes for "defeating" them, too).Heck they just introduced a AWB in the TX committee so it will hit the floor by session end.
