I thought I'd settled on a CZ75C, but the mag release on my own CZ 75B sticks out so far that in some holsters the release gets pressed and the mag pops out at the worst of times. Shouldn't have to consider milling down the release button on a new gun just to prevent such embarrassing things.

9mm double stack with at least 10 round capacity
double action/single action
either decock ability or safety when cocked
external safety
either stainless steel or a rugged corrosion resistant finish
external hammer fired

At this point I don't care if it's polymer framed, alloy or steel. I don't want a striker fired gun.
Make and model numbers really appreciated, but I haven't yet found one that has all these features. Thanks. Don.

S&W 659 or 5906, and some other 3rd gens models. Discontinued, but pretty available, most are very reasonably priced, and the guns are hell for stout. They're up a little now, but not long ago, LE trade in 5906s could be had for under $300.

Standard 5906 (later version with rounded trigger guard):

Of course, there's always the Beretta line as well.

Sig, Beretta, & Taurus has more than a few models in current production that will fit your needs. If you want to go the pre-owned route, S&W 59 Series or Ruger P Series. Do you have a harder question? :D

Any number of current production models from Beretta, H&K, SIG, and probably some others fit the bill.

The standard Beretta 92FS with Bruniton finish is pretty corrosion-resistant but if that wasn't good enough you could get the 92FS Inox.

H&K P30 decocker (V3) or P30S deckocker+safety (V3). These have the paddle style mag release which should eliminate any mag drop issues. 15 rounds.

"...milling down the release button..." Sounds like something is wrong with it if it sticks out like that.
You're criteria describes a BHP. And just about every pistol.

Hk p30s. - hell for stout. Paddle mag release, decocker, safety lever 15 rounds.

HK USP or USP compact. - same deal as above basically.

The gun has a part called a magazine brake which should prevent that problem. It's either defective or someone has removed or disabled it.

I carry a CZ-75D PCR with an extended mag release which is a standard feature on this gun and I've even carried my 75B, and never have had the mag release unexpectedly. Both pistols are stock.

A friend of mine has a PCR with a very touchy mag release button. The mag gets released by accident a lot while firing and I've told he should call CZ to see what they could do, but am not sure if he ever has.

There is a crapload of options for the OP to consider.

"either decock ability or safety when cocked"
"either decock ability or safety when cocked"
"external safety"

Those are two separate requirements by the OP. Having a decock makes the gun safe, but it's not the same thing as having an external safety unless it's a gun like a S&W or Beretta where the external decocker also acts as a locking safety.

"either decock ability or safety when cocked"
The OP also says...
external safety
Since he's a CZ75 shooter, the logical assumption is he's looking for a gun with an external safety. That safety can either have a feature that decock's the gun or will allow the gun to be carried "cocked and locked".

That leaves out the SIG P229 listed by M-Cameron and the P228/M11A1 listed by judgedelta.

Certainly I could be wrong, but we'll need to wait for the OP to come back and clarify.

I've really come to appreciate the heel mag release

:barf:

I have two, a CZ-52 and a PMR-30. I enjoy those two, but on a carry/defensive piece, I want a normal mag release. I also prefer that they perform in American style, ejecting the mag, not just popping it out of battery.

Hmmmm I've owned 7 cz pistol's and never had the problem you speak of so my suggestion would be to fix whatever is wrong on your gun most likely a weak or bent mag release spring, either pull it out and bend it or replace it.

CZ offered a couple different mag release lengths, my current carry gun has the extended mag release but if you prefer a shorter than stock one you can get the Rami mag release as long as your gun has the D style release.

How about the fnx9?

Da/sa, stainless or blued slide with polymer frame, 17 round 9mm, can be carried decocked with the safety on or off or can be carried cocked and locked.

Completely ambidextrous if that makes a difference either way.

HK P30S/P30LS/P30SK-S, HK USP V1 DA/SA have both a safety and decocker plus the safety can be activated when the hammer is down. Beretta also has a number of models that have the features you want I believe.

I own the HK P30LS. Great pistol. Mine is the longslide version. There is also the P30 compact and the P30SK subcompact.

The HK mag release may be an advantage as it doesn't take lateral pressure to activate. It is unlikely a holster or your body would activate the mag release.
