Got a 7.62x25 spam can in the mail today. Any good ideas on how to open it? Lol. I feel like I need a giant can opener.

:cuss:

Had to do that yesterday for a similar can of 9mm Largo. Wasnt easy, that thing is soldered good. I used a boy scout knife, the awl to make a small hole the can opener to make a biger line then a pair of tin snips. Good luck and be careful.

All directions are given with the picture above in mind.

There is a flat tab on the bottom right that is soldered in place. Grasp it with some vice grips or pliers and pull it away from the can. You can roll it up around the vice grips as you pull it out. When done, you should have a vertical strip removed on the right side (going top to bottom). Once the strip is removed, you can use the vice grips/pliers to start pulling the top off the can. Basically, you want to pry it off from right to left alternating between the top and bottom...kind of like you are folding down the covers off of a bed.

Just remember the weak point of the can is the solder. Pull on the aluminum to break the solder and separate the top of the can from the rest. Wear gloves...the aluminum is sharp.

BTW, where did you get the ammo?

I have opened a few bulgarian 7.62x25 and 7.62x54 cans over the years. Most times the D-ring pull tab was missing. I attacked the solder seams with a sharp chisel and hammer to open up a hole and then pryed it open from there. The good this is that the Bulgarian cans are zinc and they are soft. Harmon Rabb, that is the Polish 1260 round can correct?

P38, of course...............

A large screwdriver and a hammer... Tap the hole and it will open up one side. Then use a pair of needle nose plyers and open it like a can of sardeens.

There is a PULL TAB on the lower right corner of the above picture

COME ON folks, listen the rest of the galv is soldered, except for the pull tab part, that was sealed with a lead paste?? its really easy, might want to try one of these

Pair of pliers works too
