I'm out here on a business trip for the week and drop my boss off at the airport at 3pm on Thursday. :) :)

I was wondering if there were any dealers out here worth anything before I head back to the peoples republic of IL? Specifically I'm looking for someone who would carry H335.

Have a good one,
Dave

I live near Dayton, but don't know of any really good suppliers. Olde English Outfitters a little bit North of Dayton does have a decent selection of reloading supplies...not great, but ok. Their prices are the same...not great, but ok. Customer service is excellent, however.

I'm not sure if they stock H335, but I may stop in there tonight after work. If I do, I'll take a look and let you know.

There is also a Gander Mountain off of I-70 North of Dayton, they have reloading supplies, but I'm not sure if they stock any powder.

Thanks! I was just hoping things were better over here than they are at home. :) I give my local guy all my business but sometimes it takes me 3-4 months for him to get powder in . .just not enough call for it in our neighborhood.

Take care,
Dave

It is not even a tough decesion if you must choose between Old English and Gander Mtn.
While I also have found the prices at Old English to be average, they have a very nice store. Every time I head south on I75 I try to time my trip to include a stop there

Well in comparison Olde English's averageness makes it sparkle like a gem.

I only have one complaint about Olde English...
I was going to buy some of their 9MM Win Ranger T JHP one day but when I opened the box I did not find Ranger T ammo. I'm not sure what kind of ammo it was (it was some sort of crappy JHP) but it sure wasn't Ranger T. I don't suspect Olde English of any wrong doing. Perhaps an employee decided to upgrade. I pointed this out to the guy who showed it to me but he seemed uninterested and didn't seem to think I knew what I was talking about.

gun store in centerville - sucks (owner told me he once killed a *racial slur* with a hammer :what: ) also somewhat overpriced and rude if he doesn't like what you're saying. He told me anyone with any knowledge about guns can tell the difference between a "german makarov" and any other makarov with a blind fold on. The german one is the only one worth a darn and the slide on other makarovs feel like you're rubbing two bricks together. :scrutiny:

Arms Depot - overpriced and very cranky about it, occasionally you can knock him down near average, he might be little cranky and late to open the store sometimes but he really is a good guy (no sarcasm here) He does charge a ridiculous fee for using a credit card.

Jim's Guns - I just don't know why I keep going back to this place. If you ever have a difficult firearms question this is the place to go. Jim is a big gun history buff. I might not agree with him on everything but he knows his guns. Prices here 99% of the time are terrible. They will normally come down a little bit but they are still generally way overpriced. I did find a decent price here once. Jim must have slipped up. For some reason he will only pay $250 for a lightly used glock and then thinks he can sell a police trade in for $550. New taurus 85 is going to cost you atleast $400 here. Bulgarian Makarovs for $235 - 279??? :what: They are always telling me I can't get it cheaper from anyone else. Haven't they noticed all the gun transfers they do for me? Obviously I CAN get them cheaper even after paying shipping and the $25 transfer fee.

Aim Surplus - only a 20 minute drive from Dayton, decent prices and a great place to buy mil-surp guns and ammo.

Gun shop in Xenia - can't remember what this place is called. They are normally way over priced.

Target World - After the manager screamed expletives at me over the phone and hung up on me I refuse to step foot in that place. They lost a customer for life. To bad for them. I buy a ALOT of guns. Basically what happened was I signed up for a CCW class. They were booked up 2 MONTHS in advance. I specifically asked what the deposit refund/cancellation policy was. Well they told me I just had to cancel atleast 48hrs ahead of time to keep my money. I had my wife call the next day to do just that. I found a closer location at a closer date. They were very rude to my wife and told her no refunds. I called them back the same day (two months ahead of time) and told them I need to cancel. They said ok. Done. I asked if they would then be charging the deposit back to my card. No we don't give refunds on deposits. Well I knew that since they were totally booked solid and still filling up this spot would be filled within the next hour. I mentioned the 48 hours policy. They explained that was to allow me to use the deposit for another class not for a refund. :neener: So I explained to them that I am not liable in this situation and the law requires them to give me a refund. If I had cancelled at the last minute I would not expect a refund. They were being very rude this whole time and only getting worse. I asked for a manager at this point. The woman I was talking to claimed to be the manager. I explained to her again I'm not going to pay for this. I will dispute this charge. Her: "YOU WERE TOLD!!! WE ******* TOLD YOU ...TJOHW ****. SOLWHLWJO **** SOGLABH!!!!!.click" She hung up on me and the screaming that had taken place was totally unprovoked. I had no idea what she said, I was being very respectful and polite. I guess she couldn't tolerate my insolence any longer. I called Visa after that and the woman I talked to thought it was funny how the manager lost her cool. But she also seemed angry and low on patience with people like this trying to take advantage of consumers. Needless to say target world paid the money back. This situation made me think....maybe some people should not be allowed to have guns. If I had been standing there I think this woman might have taken a couple shots at me.

There are a couple other places around that I haven't been to. The bulk of the gun stores around here suck. None of the pawn shops that I've been to are worth mentioning. There is one near the arms depot that has a decent amount of guns but I'm not sure how their prices are. They don't seem very knowledgable there so you might just find a deal.

Edit: How could I forget Gander Mountain? I love that place. Prices aren't too bad. Nice selection of ammo there and lots of guns to look at.

Also Dicks Sporting goods where I got a good deal on a Mossberg 500 and of course good old Walmart.

When will these gun store owners realize that if you sell ten glocks and profit $50 each you will make more money than if you sell one glock and make $150. But they manage to stay in business since many people don't shop around.

I realize this doesn't have much to do with the original post but oh well.

Unfortunately I didn't make it out to Olde English last night, perhaps tonight if I'm lucky and work doesn't keep me.

Imas - accurate reviews of the Dayton shops. Arms Depot and Jim's Guns especially. Those places kill me...like you every now and then I go crazy and stop in again, but they really aren't worth my time.

I haven't been to/heard of Target World....is how is their gun selection, prices?

Sorry Target World is a shop/indoor range on the Northern Edge of Cincinnati. I have heard their prices are about average but I have not been. They kind of put me off before I ever made my first trip. Now I just don't plan on ever going. Between Gander Mountain and Olde English I have no reason.

There is a new indoor range in Moraine on Dryden Rd. (I think this guys a Glocktalk member) I haven't been yet but I will head out there one of these days. I think they have an IPSC style pistol shoot on Tuesdays for $14. Maybe I'll hit a few this fall and winter. Not sure if they have a shop there or not.

Let's not forget the gun show.

Also there is a dealer down around Middletown called The Gun Runner (513-539-8480). I really like this guy. I met him at the gun show and ended up having him order me a gun (he actually beat internet+shipping/transfer fee) His shop is only 20 minute drive out of Dayton and he has very good prices. When I picked up my gun I saw a stainless Colt Delta Gold Cup for $750. If I had the extra cash I would have snapped it up.

There is also one more dealer in the Vandalia area close to Olde English that I left out. I've never been to that one and can't remember the name.

I think the Hole in the Wall in Xenia got busted for the strawman game and got shut down. All kinds of guns from that shop made their way into criminal acts. Later I think he started having heart problems. Bought my first rifle there. He ripped me off. I paid $100 for a sporterized 7.7jap bolt action and he cut me a deal on a couple boxes of ammo. But he neglected to tell me how expensive and hard to find the 7.7 ammo is compared to other calibers. Call it youthful inexperience. I asked him for advice and he unloaded a rifle he didn't want.

I think the indoor range you are talking about is Sim-Trainer. I recently heard about them and have been considering checking it out. If they have some IPSC style shoots this winter, that may be worth a look.

The other shop in the Vandalia area near Olde English is called Vandalia Tactical. They don't have any reloading supplies, but they do have a decent firearm selection. The guys are really nice, I've chatted with them a few times. They get more used guns through there than Olde English and sometimes have good deals.

I'm going to have to give the Gun Runner in Middletown a look. Does he have regular shop hours? Any chance he still has that Stainless Delta?

You'd be lucky if he does. I think that gun usually goes for around $900. This was probably in late July or early August. Did I mention it looked LNIB to me?

I think I saw a couple of his guns in the shop might have been just a bit more than they cost at the gun show so you might see if you can talk him down at all. They were still decent prices though.

Not sure what hours he keeps. Give him a call.

I did go to a pawn shop in dayton over on strip club blvd one time. They had a Keltec P3AT for $350 or so.

The other shop real close to Olde English is Vandalia Tactical right accross from the airport on old 25A
decent selection not as good as olde english
