Got a Pawn Shop in My area that has a Hesse Arms AR with a A2 upper for sale. Not a bad looking post ban. Never heard of these guys and cannot find anything about them. The price they want is $537. Seems a bit high. ;)

Hesse has an awful reputation among knowledgeable gun-owners. Seriously, I wouldn't buy anything from them. There may be good Hesse's out there, but if there are, I haven't heard of them.

What he said.

If you want a cheap AR, consider building. Mine cost $609, IIRC, for a bone stock A2 rifle. I used a DPMS lower, and a Del-Ton kit, and other than the finishes not matching perfect, it came out nice.

Hesse.

It approximateely rhymes with "mess," which is what it is. You might get a good rifle, but I would not bet on it.

Didn't they change their name to Vulcan Armament or something similar? (...um...as mentioned by modified browning about two posts up.)

I would like to quote Coronach from the thread "Hesse Model 47: how to fix."

Take the Hesse with magazine inserted.
Grasp the magazine firmly in the left hand. With the right actuate the mag release.
Remove Hesse rifle. Set aside.
Take a SAR-1 or other AK clone and place it on the magazine and rock it into place.
Your AK will now function properly.

How many other companies can produce non-functioning AKs with some degree of regularity? Run, do not, I repeat, do NOT walk away unless you like tinkering and the money is burning a massive hole in your pocket.

okay.....

I know that many have said that they are bad. But I bought one several years ago during the ban for about $500ish. I have an A2 model and have never had a problem with it. I have even shot crappy ammo in it without problem. I have also used it in a highpower match to get my m1 Garand, I came in last but that was my problem not the gun. I have some type of "comp" on it as it came from the factory. Looks like a flash hider but has a series of holes in it. My uncle has the same one (we bought them together) and aside from him not shooting it well that one has not been a problem either. My friend bought on a few weeks later. He is using wolf and gets malfunctions. I believe it is the ammo, he has not changed it so it is his problem. I have put about 700rds through my rifle without problem. Would I buy one again?......NO. But I would not sell it. I like the A2 profile but have since bought a RRA Tactical Entry with the "EVIL" features the day after the ban ended. The Hesse will go into second line usage. Your milage will vary but this is my humble report and first hand experience. Try $300 se if they will bite.

darogue 1,

Logic tells you that if every single firearm they sold was inoperative they would stay in business for a very short time. The ratio of junk to working firearms is high enough in this case that it's a bad risk. Consider yourself very fortunate. ;)

Believe me when I say that I do consider myself lucky. I have read alot of crap about alot of stuff on the internet and sometimes you have to learn by your mistakes instead of everybody telling you everything. I feel that first hand experience is a good thing. I get tired of hearing that "XXX sucks" and when you ask why people do not have a valid answer and say "well, i read that they do on the internet."

I had read in the internet that they sucked and imagine my surprise when the big white boxes read Hesse arms on them! My heart jumped into my throat! I had a feeling of impending doom. Pulse rate jumped, ect. The gun shop girl ordered them special for me. What do you do in a situation like that? Refuse them off the top based on a name alone? Refuse to transact the sale without looking at them? Every gun purchase in my book is a slight risk. For the most part you can not "test drive" the latest and greatest blaster of the month before you buy it. I wish that you could. So as you can see I was slightly "stuck with it" so they have wound up being a pleasant surprise!

Something else along this lines is that I have had a "loaded" M1A on order with her since Feb. of this year. She finally got one in for me but it had the california comp on it and not the regular flash hider. I wanted the real flash hider and not the comp so I told her no. I felt like an ass for doing it. I really felt bad for not taking it but I considered it her mistake this time not mine so she had to put it up for sale in the shop. Guess she was "stuck with it" this time around. Hopefully in a month or two I will get the one I have been waiting for from Springfield Armory. But wait......I have read on the internet that their products have been crappy lately too.....poor quality control or something like that (I am being serious here, I have heard that). here we go again.......

That is the main reason for my low post count. That and some how I kill threads. My grandmother always said to me "believe 1/2 of what you see and 1/4 of what you hear and you will be okay." That's sage advice!!

As always you mileage may vary. (and no flames intented to anyone)

While Hesse Arms guns aren't worth the powder to blow them to hell...

Hesse/Vulcan is the Corvair of our time, unsafe at any speed!

As a former and current Corvair owner, I take exception to that (Ralph Nader attributed) remark.

I bought a Hesse stainless lower once. The hole for the pivot pin was drilled offset and I had to grind the pin to make it work. Shouldn't be that way.

Well I made a cash offer of $200. Got him on his puter and looked at this thread. He turned me down, saying that his price was fair and that you can't believe anything on the net. :banghead: Guess he will find some fool to sell it to. BTW the barrell was NOT lined!! :what: Thanks for the info, saved me some money!!

You could pay me to take one. I'd take your money, then take the receiver to a gun buy back and take their money, and then I'd go buy myself something that shoots.
