I'm 19, so, of course, I'm not permitted to defend myself. A basic human right...for those over 21. I can also buy beer the first day I can carry. Great combination.

Anyway, is there any way it can be done?

Hoplophile, at your age, you should be focusing on getting good grades and saving money for college. Stop playing out all sorts of manly man gunslinging fantasies and complaining about them not being possible to your internet friends. Try picking up a couple extra hours at work, sign up for another AP class, and stop your whining.

No, it's called poorly done attempted sarcasm. It's just a self-serving and nonsensical combination of two factors that make no comprehensible point.

I think it's quite un-American to send some 18 year olds to defend the country and deny others the right to defend themselves.
So they should allow those that go into the military service at 18 to CCW. That'd solve your concern. And it would be tremendously better than allowing all 18 year olds to CCW.

Not very high road, WhiteKnight. This guy is 18 years old, an adult, can go to war and die for your RKBA but is denied part of that right. He has every right to be frustrated, as I was a couple of years ago before I turned 21.

All I can say is join the NRA, write your politicians and all that, and maybe some day, 18 year olds will actually have full adult rights.

PS When did the OP suggest he had these "manly man gunslinging fantasies?" Perhaps he just wants the same rights to self defense that you have.

wow, for a bunch of "supposedly" pro gun guys, you all sure are negative to someone thats just starting out. He's got the same rights as you, but you're on your high horse looking down at him... So Much for High road.

This is a very disturbing trend I've noticed here as of late...

Directed at people who think that the right to carry should come with age... surely you realize that there are some 19 year olds that are more responsible than some 21 year olds? Age doesn't equal responsibility.

Crunker1337, do you think that the age requirement in all CCW laws should be lowered to 18 years old?

C'mon guys, lay off the dude. Ever hear of 'tongue in cheek'? Irony?

Someone's Corn Flakes got contaminated this morning.

He's 19. More than likely out of High School. Quite possibly a sophomore in college even.

They let 18 year olds carry where I live and I'm pretty sure that they issue permits to 18 year olds in Indiana?

I haven't heard about any blood baths.

Best advice I have seen on this board in a long time. +1

Good point.
13 states allow 18 year olds to CCW.
Of those 13,7 IN,ME,MT,NH,ND,SD and WY are shall issue.
5 are may issue,AL,CA,DE,IA and MD.
1 requires no permit,VT and eligible 16 year olds can carry.
These amount to over one quarter of the states including many with very low crime rates.
It's certainly something to consider for the remaining 37 states.
I am certainly for it.

Why go out of your way to stir the pot then? I've noticed a lot of your posts are self-serving and offer no value to a thread. Unless you think bickering for the sake of bickering adds value.

I'd prefer all persons be able to CCW at 18. Seems to me you've got the same mindset as those that don't want college carry because some college kids are binge drinkers and substance abusers. Some are, but many are not. Just because the law would allow CCW at 18, that doesn't mean all 18 year olds would start carrying.

Solo Flyer pulled some numbers (thanks!), and it doesn't seem to be any issue with the 13 states that already allow it. The world won't end just because we allow people to do things today that used to be common in years past.

You looked for internet advice over doing the research your self? You tounge in cheek commented on buying a beer the first day you carry. And

SOOO as an average, MOST 19 year olds are more responsible than 21 right? If its not most theres absolutly no way that there would ever be a law passed to lower the age, IMO. I think It would be like saying "some people can drive while drunk, so we should get rid of the drinking and driving law"... Sure that couple people could drink and drive but MOST cant, and would be an awful idea...

Im all about gun rights and RKBA, but at 18 (or 19) you should worry about school like has been said. Also If you live home, make plans to get a place of your own. Further your carear/job. If your that nervious, take a self defense class. (street fighting, knife fighting/defensive use, and maby a martial arts of some sort,)

With out proper training the gun is useless, prepair mentally for when you can prepair physcially..

Im getting into a self defense class in Oct. to wait out my time till I can carry. So when I can carry, It will be my LAST choice in any given situation.

good lord, whiteknight, not THR at all. Take a chill pill, man.

Hoplophile, You can't CCW in this grand state, but there are things you can do.
You can carry in an manner around your house.
You can carry a weapon in your car with you.

Go check handgunlaw.us and get informed. Always remember to check local ordinances as well.

Probably not. You can buy the beer, but I believe you have to be 21 to APPLY for your permit... you can't apply ahead of time hoping for it to be issued by your 21st birthday.

Some of the responces on this thread remind me why I am not very active here. I like the majority, but the few that are up on their high horse not supporting a fellow firearms owner really make me wanna :cuss:. This 19 year old who could be in Iraq fighting right now, but cannot defend himself in his own country. Not everyone in college wants to blow every red cent on school, some of us have other hobbies also. Maybe his school is already paid for - did you think about that? My school was taken care of by a Money Market account I set up when I was 15. So my money goes towards regular expenses, car payment, range time, ammo, and of course firearms. Maybe a couple people should re-think their statements... <Rant off>

ETA: And for those of you saying that there is no way I could possibly raise that much money in three years, at 16 I was making $15/HR setting tools for a plastic injeciton molding company. By 18 I was making $20.81/hr designing automotive dunnage in solidworks. I had no bills whatsoever until I was 19, so do the math.
