anybody have a source for a left hand long action savage bolt? 30-06 bolt head family. I have an old old school savage I am trying to rebarrel, and it has a bolt that is incompatible with modern savages.

midway, brownells, numrich do not have what I need, savage refuses to sell one to either me or my gunsmith (some BS about needing to headspace the bolt to the receiver, which is the whole point of the barrel nut) and won't let me send them the action to install one because it is too old.

I could try to piece something together with parts from a couple different websites, but I am not 100% certain of what all I would need. I think it is this list
new bolt head
all the parts to complete the head such as this kit http://www.gunshack.com/savage-bolt-head-parts-kit
a new bolt body
firing pin
bolt head cross pin

I priced out having the barrel machine to take the old remington style bolt head, but the smith was going to charge the cost of a new action to do it. phooey on that.

Pacific Tool and Gauge (PTG) likely has what you need for bolt bodies -if- it's really a long action. The rest is just parts - bolt head, baffle, washer, cross pin, firing pin assembly, cocking pin, bolt handle, bolt handle bolt, and so forth. If it's a long action, the action screw spacing will be 5.062" and any southpaw long action bolt body of any vintage will work.

OTOH, if it's a 1959-1988 intermediate action (almost a long action but not quite, and used for 308-class chamberings) it'll measure at 4.522" between action screw centers. Virtually NOBODY has bolt bodies or stocks for the pre-1989 (pre-bankruptcy) intermediate actions - not even Savage themselves. From your description - that's what it sounds like you have , and not a true long action.

It's a long action. I can get the body from numrich. I can come up with a complete bolt head too. It's all the other parts I'm not sure about: baffles pins screws etc.
