Anybody into Annealing?

I notice quite a few videos on Youtube, or posts on forums, show or describe using Tempilaq or similar to test the temperature of the brass during annealing. I don't see many validating the process by showing before and after groups using the annealed cases. Surely this is the most important thing since the reason to anneal is to enable the reloader to control neck tension and shoulder bump, both of which affect accuracy.
I anneal using the ghetto method which involves a hand drill, deep socket and 750* tempilaq.
After fire forming virgin brass, my rifle would easily group 1/2 moa.
At the 4th firing of my lapua .308 brass I started noticing inconsistent neck tension. I could definitely feel it when seating on the press and the groups proved it.
Groups were erratic and would get flyers in almost every group that would open up to 1.5moa or worse.
I ghetto annealed and loaded all 100 pieces of lapua brass and groups went back to 1/2 moa and has stayed that way through 3 firings.
On the press after templiaq annealing, the feel of the bullet seating was very consistent.
I have pictures I will try to dig up.
