Got a new Mossberg MVP and going to use just the irons for now. Took off the scope rail and want to fill the holes with a socket set screw.

Problem is I can't find the correct size. Went to the hardware store with the screws that came off the rifle and tried to match to what they had, no luck with either metric or SAE.

Emailed Mossberg, no response after 3 days.

Hoping one of you guys know.

Thanks,

.

6-48 is the most common size for scope rails and bases. 8-40 is sometimes used as a repair for stripped holes and on hard kicking or heavy use tacticool guns. You won't usually find either of those at a hardware store. Call Mossberg. They can verify the size and might send some at no charge. Brownells and Midway are the best sources.

I think some I purchased were 6-32 and the closest I could find. That is probably the correct size you posted. Hole the same, threads different.

They must be reading posts................

A few minutes after posting this I got a reply from Mossberg.

They will put 4 screws in the mail for me, no charge.

Done deal.

When you need filler screws, most gun shops that install mounts will have hundreds of them they take out of rifles.

Hi - I bought my MVP Scout recently and put 40 rounds through it. Cleaning it I discovered all the rail screws had worked loose and the front one missing completely. I am waiting for Mossberg to send me screws but I have asked them by email for the size. They do not appear to be metric.

Well on Amazon Prime was a Pachmeyer box of 277 "hard to find" screws for sight, rail mounts and hopefully a slot head screw to fit my Rossi M92 which lost a screw which actually secures nothing but leaves an annoying hole! Never thought of looking there. Another make has less screws but includes a couple of taps
