Anyone do chokes in a shockwave yet?

Was playing with the idea of an sbs from a shockwave and having the barrel drilled and tapped for chokes, anyone else thought of trying it? Seems like it would really make the little thing more useful.

The Shockwave is basically a SBS as it is; why go to the NFA trouble?

For what purpose actually?

To make a shockwave useful you need to put a stock and an 18 to 28 inch barrel on it.
I’ll agree halfway with you. A stock makes a world of difference in shootability.

I did take my 14” SBS to a defensive shotgun class a few years ago, and it did just as well as the guns with longer tubes hanging out there. I was using a factory barrel with a fixed modified choke. My patterns were the same as everyone else’s, and I was easily getting hits as well as any other.

The only thing that really seemed to make any difference were the people shooting Flite Control wads. And again, barrel length didn’t seem to make a difference there either.

OTOH, I’ve got a Shockwave grip that I’ve put on my SBS on occasion. To shoot it halfway effectively I have to sight down it as if shooting with a stocked shotgun. It works, but recoil control is not nearly as good (think about follow-up shots) Shooting from the hip is hit or miss out beyond 10 yards or so.

I want to put a stock on one. Not a brace, a stock. That is the reason to play with a tax stamp. I love the way mine shoots, but chokes could tighten patterns from a cyl bore, just curious if anyone has had removable chokes installed on the little mossberg barrel? Not the NFA forum, so wasn't getting into the stock arguments. I just want a 14" "REAL" shotgun...

Check barrel OD and ID. Generally speaking, the minimum for thinwall chokes is a .805 OD and max bore of .730.

I don't get it, but I did just get my Western Field 30/Stevens 520 barrel back yesterday, nine days after I shipped it, from Mike Orlen, threaded for Invector chokes. $65 plus shipping if you decide to do it.

I would imagine it would have sufficient wall thickness considering its taper ends at 14”.

I dont know why people are knocking it. I have a 24” H&R single shot with removable chokes and it is vastly superior to a 24” single shot with fixed or no choke.

Haven't done it in a Shockwave but I did it with a couple 18 in. barreled shotguns. It certainly doesn't decrease the usefulness in any way and it can make them more versatile. You can rent the reamer and tap from this place, https://4drentals.com/ and do it yourself. If you have more than one shotgun to do or if you can get some friends together it gets cheaper per gun.

That is a good idea, I do have another 12 I may cut down to 20" and do this to. I like short shotguns for everything but clays, don't get to chase birds very often. When I get to work behind a dog I have a nice 20 GA double with 28" tubes.

I wouldn’t get chokes installed, I’d buy another shotgun for turkey and HD. My turkey and HD shotgun are one and the same though.
