At first I was thinking I had bought a range toy and nothing else but this Shockwave has been growing on me.

Positive #1: This little gun with the birdshead grip is pretty fun to shoot, and I have been having a fun time learning how to shoot it. I just learned I needed to be patient and understand that I was a beginner with it. I like to shoot it against my cheek as shown in some videos online.

Positive #2: Originally I felt the gun was a little too much of a nitch gun to be useful, but I recently moved to a nice but small apartment and it’s a nice nifty little gun for a space such as this. This gun is extra easy to maneuver with and an attacker is much less likely to return fire if hit with a full power load of buckshot.

Change of plans #1: I was originally going to use this to track wounded boars when hunting or to carry in the woods. It can be used for that but for now I will prefer my full-sized Mossberg 590. My full sized 590 is still much easier to carry in low trees and brush than my scoped rifle and I can comfortably shoot 3 inch hardcast 0000 buck and 1.25oz Brennekke slugs in it. With the Shockwave I do not find the recoil of standard loads a problem but the muzzle flip and recoil are too much (for me) with the full power 3 inch shells. It is also probably true that while I can become very good with the shockwave I think I will always be more accurate with the traditional shotgun.

Change of plans #2: I was originally going to take it in my truck but unless my threat model changes I am not going to store it in my truck since I am concerned with theft. It is a good gun to have against a pistol if you do happen to have it with you though.

If you have a Shockwave or TAC-14 I’d love to hear about your experiences with it and what you use it for.

I tried a Pachmayr "Vindicator" pistol grip and forend set on an 18" barrel 870 thirty five years ago. It wasn't for me. Have fun with your Mossberg. I may just be too old fashioned. I do like my old compact 870 riot.

I have a Mossberg Shockwave in 410 and love it. I have stayed with 410's for a few reasons. First a 410 is what I grew up using for most hunting. Second reason is that a 410 is much easier for my to use since having arthritis and fibromyalgia.

I was trained on using the shorter NFA versions of the Shockwave while in the Army. We used them for breeching doors and such. We were taught to shoot them while holding them at arms length using a push/pull method.

My Shockwave patterns 3" 000 buckshot loads quite well. The patterns out to 15 yards are about the same as my 500 410 with 18 1/2" barrel. The pattern definitely opens up a bit more at 25 yards with the Shockwave. Buried somewhere in the shotgun section is my range results with both the 500 and Shockwave.

I never had an actual Tac 14 or Shockwave, I have had PO boy versions either an 870 or Maverick 88 with an 18 inch barrel and then the shockwave tech grip, I think they're handy, I love having them in the truck when I'm away in addition to a pistol and backup pistol, Id be able to arm the passenger with a back up and then still be able to hold a viable long gun and side arm. Shooting them are not bad either with proper technique, hell I saw a YouTube video of a guy hunting deer and dove with one.
